The Lakes were his passion and he took great satisfaction from taking his friends  and sharing his love for the lakes . he is a great loss to his family, friends and colleagues we will all miss him. A very genuine man who would always " say it how it was".Our thoughts are with his family and his two walking companions .God Bless

So you were his friend Simon?  You must be feeling the disbelief at his loss. If there is anything I can do to help just ask.  It is devastating to lose someone so suddenly and so inexplicably.  Take care.

Hi Lindsay. I am so sorry for your loss. You must be heart broken and devastated.  If you would like to you could tell us something about your husband on here. I would like to know more. You said he was an experienced walker.  Where did he go? What was his favourite place?  Did he use Outdoors Magic?  The anonymous reports that we all read in newspapers about people who have been killed in accidents always annoy me in the way they are reported. They are never anonymous. There is always some person just like ourselves behind it, a person who has a family and friends that love them and are hurt.

If you don't know much about this website Lyndsey then these forums are for the community of outdoors lovers who share much in common with your husband Dave.  People get to know each other on here and discuss all matters and subjects related to the great outdoors. Most spend all the free time they can spare doing what your husband Dave loved to do and because of that no doubt everyone on here will feel the loss of a fellow outdoors man keenly.  Safety is a major concern to us all.

I hope you are getting the support and kindness you need at this time.  My thoughts are with you.

thanks for that guys im just totally numb and gutted bu it alla nd so i=s my darling daughter daves shadow 3 and half year old abigail.  dave had been wlaking in the lakes for years since he was 17 in fact and his most fave route was hevellyn which is where he will be scattered from by his wlaking gang plus the 2 collegues he was with at the time not 3 as the news reports it to be.  the inquest opened and adjoruned ydaterday and will commenc ein 3 months in the meantime im trying to get him home but the coroner has declared it a closed coffin to remain selaed and no topened which isnt something i wanted to hear i was pinning my hope son been able to go kiss him have him dressed in wedding suit and say goodbye and now even thats been taken from me .  he shattrered every boen in his bodya nd they tried to rebuild his face but they couldnt.

dave only had 2 topics of conversation so i am told by all his friends me and abi plus his wlaking - he wewnt the way he would have wanted to go in the lakes doing what he did best albeit without the 2 of us he loved the most so i am trying to find a little comfort in that and indeed in a foto i have been given that morning he looked so damn happy.

i miss him so much and im so empty cos we were 2 halves of a whole and now i just dont know what to with myself.  the funeral will be nedt wednesday and all contributions will go to the mountain rescue team.

Lindsay - I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to your husband.  I know exactly what you're going through and how you are feeling right now because I also lost my husband in a scrambling accident on the Lake District fells, six years ago.

Andrew Spink hit the nail on the head with his comments about the anonymous reports in the newspapers.   Whilst the vast majority who read it may think fleetingly of the loss, they soon return to their normal lives, but the lives of the families and loved ones left behind are changed forever.

It's far too early to tell you that things will get better, but it's true, time does heal.

Just email me (by clicking on my name above) if you feel it would help to talk.

I'll be thinking of you.

Lorraine

Dear Lindsay.

you dont know me. But I just wanted to pass on my.....I dont know if condolences is the right word....Im sorry about your loss.

I can say nothing to change things. But please accept a hug from me.

Im sure you do have a good support network of friends and family. You also have an extended group of sympathetic and friendly group here too. Sometimes it can be good to write feelings down, esp in a semi anonymous forum such as this.

Dear Lindsay,

You, Abigail and your family are in my thoughts. "Two halves of a whole" is what my mum and dad were when my dad died suddenly, and a very close family friend told her at the funeral that 'time heals'. At the time I thought it was just the usual platitudes, but he was right: people do find themselves again after such tragedies. I hope you find your way. I will be thinking of you next wednesday.

Really sorry to hear about your husband Lindsey, read it a few days ago and was saddened by it. You've really got to make what you can of the life your given as it can be shorter than you think sometimes and it sounds like he certainly had been making the most of his life! Hope the community spirirt on here has shown you that your not alone!
