Hi

My girlfrient has decided to come camping with me - but she will get a little claustrophobic in my small 2 man tent.  So... I am looking at purchasing a new one - 3 man, so that she will have a little room to breathe.

I had ordered a Merlin 33 (North Face) (at £185) but that was out of stock so the order was cancelled and now I am looking at the ME Refuge 3 for £115

Has anyone got one of these?
Also, as we may be using this on holidays in slightly sunnier climbs, I was hoping for something which could be pitched fly only - with a purpose footprint available - can I get one for the Refuge 3?

Finally - for the money - £185 max, can anyone suggest an alternative which they think would do the job?  I think I would go for the merlin if it was available at about £200 - what are your thoughts

The Refuge 3 is a weighty thing, coming in at over 4.6 kilos!

Thanks

What sort of camping? If it's car camping there are loads of choices. If it's not you won't want to be lugging nearly 5 kilos of tent with you!

You could always stick with the small 2 man and get a less claustrophobic girlfriend

Are you planning a long extended wild camp type travels with her then pdotie? Otherwise the two man should give the two of you all the space you really need for sure. Why not invest in a two man extended tent version instead, if a standard two man is going to maybe be a little too small, potentially. A few manufacturers still make such tents today - which are just a little larger within than the standard model is. The two of you are going to be in it together, so why not perhaps go look at some tents together in store, to try them out for size and suitability before you buy?

I think best thing is to look at tents in store.

Regarding size, would prefer something which was around 4kg max since we will be backpacking with it so could split it but will not always be taking the car.

I think I will take a look at these "extended 2 man" you mention trevor - thanks for that.
