I have both the Pipedream 400 and the Cumulus Ultralite 350. The Pipedream is a bigger bag, has better loft, neck baffle, so for me, is a better bag. The Cumulus has a noticeably smaller foot plug. The one advantage of the Cumulus is that it packs smaller.

The Cumulus is not a bad bag and the trapezoidal baffles are very effective, it's just the Alpkit Pipedream is an outstanding bag.

Personally, I would avoid bags without zips as I like to have some temperature control. I have a WM HighLite which has a half zip and even that is limiting. Full zips are essential for me, but others have different views and that's up to them.

What are the hoods like on the phd minims? And do they have neck/shoulder baffles?

"neck/shoulder baffles" NO, no bells or whistles just extreme lightweight

But the hoods are fine - simple but well shaped and effective.

Thanks for the input Robin especially as you have two of the mentioned bags.

It's very interesting you say the pipedream 400 is bigger than the cumulus U/L 350 as alpkit say the pipe dream is 210 x 70 and cumulus say the U/L 350 is 217 x 75cm.

Yesterday I laid the Cumulus on top of the Pipedream to compare dimensions. There's not much difference, but the Pipedream is slightly longer by about an inch or so. It is also marginally wider at the shoulders. The loft on the Pipedream is noticeably higher. Overall they're both good bags, but the Pipedream is warmer, and better value IMO.

Thats interesting to know, Thanks again Robin. I guess that theoreticaly the 400g of 750 down in the pipe dream is going to be warmer than 350g of 680 down in the cumulus. But then I think the baffles are slanted on the cumulus which helps to retain heat better. weight the bags to see how they compare to the advertised ones?

sorry that meant to say, have you ever weighed the bags to see how they compare to the advertised weights.
