Hi everyone.

Been on  this site for a while and am just startin g to get back into trail running. Taking it easy and doing some runs over ilkley moor. Just wondering if any of you guys know of any great runs in the west yorkshire area about 6 miles max ( anymore i might not make it back !!! ).

cheers guys

Ha ha, you'd be 'Drivsy' then!

Sorry to see no-one has got back to you. Have you looked at the Wharfedale Harriers website, or Ilkley Harriers? They are both a bit more fell than trail running, mind. Or at least I think they are...

...as I said on t'other thread, there's Bolton Abbey. Another one that occurred to me would be Embsay moor; once you're up on the top bit, it's a bit flatter and very nice up there, all heathery but with decent paths.

Any amount of runs along the river wharfe, after all it's the Dales Way footpath start point, eh?!

From where I live (Silsden) you've got the towpath of the Leeds/Liverpool canal to go at, which is quite nice if a bit flat.

Hope there's some ideas to be getting on with. We may even cross paths when out and about. I'll be carrying a copy of 'the Times', and sporting a large carnation...

Hi James, a popular area is Roundhay Park to start, you go around the big Lake, (clockwise) carry on up the Gorge, cross the Ring Road and then there is a nice route through Shadwell, (stay clockwise) along towards Colliers Lane, cross the RR again, along a footpath through the golf course (proper ROW!), through the woods back to the lake, finish the circumnavigation to your car.

Deffo a fave.

Embsay Moor is great - best if you get someone to drop you off at Embsay and pick you up in Thorpe; the route over the moor on the map involves waist-deep heather at some times of the year....

Eccup Reservoir leads into routes around the Harewood estate and past the Emmerdale set - another fave.

Any of the routes in MTB guides are nicely runnable as well; but beware certain parts of the Leeds Country Way around  Wyke as there are marauding cattle...

Drivsy, if you still look in here, have you tried the Runners World uk forum? lots of folk from our neck of the woods over there, and lots of new runners etc. Have a look in the beginners section, the 'Newbie' thread.
