Do we have an alternative to the 12 oz Heineken can that is used to build stoves and adapted for cooking pots in the U.S, am I right in saying they are not available in U.K - if they are does anybody know from where please ? Have other people tried to make their own to compliment their homemade stoves?

There is nothing quite the same; but TBH mine is 30g (ish) and my (76g ) Ti pan is far better (wider, uses less fuel to heat up, more resilient)....

But if you really want one df2 as you seem sold on SUL you can eBay then from the US for not too much.

thanks , just wondered if anybody makes their own pots in u.k - i personally feel that its a bit extreme to order a used beer can from U.S just interested to see what the U.K alternatives are.

I think it's actually a 24oz can thats used. I've never seen the 24oz Heineken can but I have seen 24oz Fosters cans. I made a mini pot out of a standard coke can which worked really well with a coke can meths stove, just an experiment though as it's really too small.

You used to be able to get 330ml Heineken cans from Tesco.  They were a mini version of the big American ones with the ridges around to give them extra strength.

I found them to be ok.  They do have a lot of draw backs

- Fragile, they need protecting in a pack.

- You can't drink from them like you can with Ti pot.  I notice that the Americans put some sort of silcone strip around the top of pot to get over this problem of burning your lips off and wrapping fibre glass string around the sides so you can pick it up.

- They are so light, that if it's really breezy and you place it on the ground empty they can easily blow away.

I use one of those charity wristbands that were so fashionable a wee while back. I seem to remember it was somone else on here who suggested it to me. It fits  round the lip of my Alpkit Ti mug. I'm not sure if the can pot would have a large enough diameter though for the wristband.

I find I can drink from my Ti pot without any problems, I wouldn't dare put my lips on a hot beer can.  Now a cold beer can full of beer ...
