Tent footprint

Just ordered a new tent and footprint (exped venus), recieved the footprint and this might seem like a really silly question but, which is the correct way to put it down?

I would guess at the tougher side down but then it would leave the taped/proofed side to be trodden on????

I'm currently using a polycro sheet, which is the same both sides.

If the manufacturer hasn't stated a preferred side, then you can do what you like. If you put the proofed side on the ground, it should be fine, so long as it doesn't get scuffed, in which case it will leak. If you put the fabric side on the ground, it will get damp, even though it shouldn't leak, but it'll need more of a wash to get mud off it than the smoother proofed side will.

For what it's worth, tent groundsheets usually have the proofed side uppermost.

How is the polycro working for you Paddy? I'm trying to decide between that and spinnaker for my new tent.

It's doing fine Mike. There was enough of it for me to get two sheets for my tent, so I'm using one at the moment and saving the other for the future. I've used the sheet on spiky dry grass and bits of gravel, and haven't punctured it yet. There's  possiblity that I'll be pitching on volcanic ash during the winter, and if you've ever looked at that stuff close-up, it's not much different than broken glass! Time will tell, I suppose!
I picked up some of that secondary double glazing film from B&Q. The stuff you put on the inside of the window, then use a hair-dryer to shrink to fit.
Folk on BPL.com have said it's the same stuff as the GG Polycro. As Winwood don't have any in stock, i'll give it a go.

Welcome to OM forum there by the way, lostmarbles.I cannot think of anything really to add here to Paddy's good advice there above, so thought Id just wish you a very warm welcome here to OM instead!

I'm pretty certain it's the shiniest side UP and the slightly duller side DOWN. At least that's usually the case with the bedroom/inner.

Mike, if you decide you do want polycro, give me a shout...
