Just a quickee for anyone not privileged to read the Glossop Chronicle: Magic Mountain's spring sale is on this coming weekend - 28-29 April. Saturday 9.00 - 5.00, Sunday 10.00 - 2.00 (not Halifax).
MM is effectively Mountain Equipment and Ron Hill's factory shop with a branch in Glossop and one in Halifax also.
Details from their web site: http://www.magic-mountain.co.uk.
There's also a mail order sale with 200 per-cent - sorry, that should have been 20 per-cent, though 200 would be nice - off anything ordered between 30 April and 12 May at full price, ie not seconds or special offers.
There's usually some great bargains to be had, so if you're in the area, drop by. If you want a decent 21 Century coffe experience, try the new Barrista cafe on Victoria Street, just before you turn into the carpark where MM is situated.
Jon I say 'thanks for the tip off' My wife says ' keep your info to yourself in future!' Just got back from doing the whole glossop experience, braving a blizzard and snow covered road over the snake pass. Got a Annapurna down jacket, £130 down from £220 and a Classic dragon 750g down bag £95 down from £160. If I think really hard I could probably justify both purchases. As I was being dragged from the shop I noticed a 3layer goretex jacket, serious piece of kit, but I didn't see what model. It was a second, reduced from £270 to £100 ! now thats a reduction. We then had the pastries and coffee at the coffee shop, very civilised, if a little blue and white. We did manage to stay out of Hadfields though, according to their board 'makers of the best pies in town' thanks again Neil
I've taken your advice Kev, I'm now out and about in, er, London. It's great, no footpath restrictions, indeed, no footpaths at all... No complaints there. And anyway, the cafe does need repainting. Right now it's all white and blue and stainless steel. A bit too surgically clean and cool for Glossop I reckon. For a warmer feel try the Rainbow Bistro round the corner.
Have you noticed the print hanging in the Barrista It's just splodges of colour, but interestingly (or not) its titled 'orange and yellow' ps the splodges of colour are, er, orange and yellow
Neil, nope, didn't notice the print - maybe it's because the last time I was there I demanded two things: yellow paint and more expresso in the latte... I got the extra expresso so you never know, maybe the paint is my fault as well. Then again maybe not.
Joan: na, the catfood down here is fearsomely expensive, it's just that the guys at Magicalien HQ like to drag me down occasionally and attempt some form of re-civilisation. May Day rioting's really over-rated. Give me Maypoles and those funny long ribbons every time. They r r r rock...
