Okay, Mike. In the meantime I think I might be onto something. Would any of you knowledgeable folk be kind enough to cast your eyes over this Marmot Titan It meets all my requirements, even the price. Oops, just noticed the 24 customer reviews. I'll have a read through them Well, 24 reviews and not a single rating of under 4 stars (on a five star system) I think I've found my tent!

Marmot are a most highly underated brand here in the UK for sure, but very popular kit brand in the USA still, and in Europe too for that matter as well.

While that Titan looks a nice tent I'm not convinced that anything with a full-mesh inner really qualifies as a 3/4 season tent (which is the reason I didn't think the Seedhouse qualified).

Don't take this as being an adverse comment on the tent, but you can't really trust most user review systems that far. Things tend to be quite polarised and either get rated as shite or brilliant and nothing in between. Not surprising, most people spend some time looking into their purchase and have a vested interest in thinking it wonderful. As is pointed out in the OM review section, most stuff should be scoring 3 stars, but there's a helluva lot of 5* stuff... Reading the text and finding out through longhand description of faults (every tent has faults, as they're all compromises) and strengths is a much better way to find stuff out than looking at star ratings, which are frankly more trouble than they're worth. Pete.

That's not 'bollocks' to your statement, Stephen, just a general 'Ah, bollocks!' because I see what you're saying. I'm afraid I'm like a kid when I want something - absolutley no patience. If I don't find something soon I just know I'm going to buy some piece of crap, just so that I can end this bloody search!! I'm off to the classifieds, see what's been left in responce to my 'wanted' post.

might suit you needs, i got a Coleman Avior X2 from Tiso for £99, easy to pitch, so far has stood up to everything iv'e put it through. last weekend had force 6/7 gales and as much rain in 48hrs as for a normal month. had to add a couple of extra guy-lines when wind direction changed, but for a tunnel tent i can't fault it. specially for the price. weight 2.4kg. max height 105cm, ( 3.45 ft. ) Coleman also make an other tent that's more like a geo. for @ £120ish can't remember name. see www.coleman-eur.com or www.tiso.com/ hth H

Phad X2 is the other tent, might be to heavy for what you want. H

Husky, I'm so tempted by the Avior. The only thing is, the reason I fell out with my other tent was because of headroom. The Avior does offer an extra 15cm in that department, but only at its peak obviously. From there it's downhill so unless I sit precicely beneath the peak, my head's going to be rubbing, just like in my old one. I can't believe this is proving to be such a ball-ache! I've looked at dozens of tents and there's always one aspect that doesn't meet up! If it's got the height, then you can bet your bottom dollar it's heavy... if it's light, then no headrrom... if it's both light AND has the headroom, then it'll be out of price range!

If you must have height Billy, then look for a cheap deal on one of the pyramid tents. I have a Golite Hex 3/Shangri-la 3 and the internal room is fantastic.

 Will do, Mike. Thanks.

In my opinion, ( I know I'll get shot down for this but anyway.....) Having an all mesh inner isn't as bad as some people make out. I have a Mountain hardwear sprite1 which is nearly an all mesh inner and don't have any complaints, if anything i think it ventilates better than my other tents and since its quite small warms up nicely. I know I'm biased but its a cracking little tent which has stood up pretty well to me mistreating it and some decent wind and wet. Yes, it is inner first aswell but it goes up quickly enough that I dont think it really matters/ makes much difference. I wouldn't discount all mesh inner tents and it should fit into your budget if you get it from the US, but I'm not sure of its height, I can sit up in it comfortably but I think I may fall into your midgets catorgory . Any questions just ask. Andrew

if anything i think it ventilates better than my other tents So plus side, when it's hot, it ventilates better. But minus side, when it's cold, it also ventilates better... Pete.

Andrew - a mesh inner is fine unless you go somewhere that's windy and dusty. There's nothing worse than being caught in a dust-storm (choking, gritty teeth, watering eyes and the sheer unpleasantness of always being grubby). Being able to zip it all out and retreat to a tent is great - but with a mesh inner it can still get to you - and even get inside your sleeping bag.

Billy, I notice Rock & Run have an MH Spear 2 tunnel for £120. Perhaps a bit heavier than you might like at 2.9 Kg, but otherwise seems to tick the boxes and is at least big enough for 2. Just something I noticed while trawling... Pete.
