Am i being a bit thick here. Does this mean you do not need to buy the OS card for the area you are walking in, instead just go online plan, download and print a hardcopy if you like ? Sound a bit too good to be true, so i've probably got it wrong
It also sounds like that to me but surely if that is the case, sales of the mapping SD Cards(especially at the very high price of £99.99)will fall significantly.
No, you still have to buy the mapping for your unit if you want to run OS mapping on it while you're out - you could still download the route and it would appear as a route on the basemap, but you couldn't use the Satmap as intended, though you could probably follow the route if you wanted to.
Does anyone know what the battery life is likely to be when using the GPS function? I quite like the idea of walking and seeing the little dot that is me on the screen moving as I walk off and away. I've heard it's 50 hours but is this with just with the screen on?
Aye ,yes that sounds a bit more like it ,thanks for the clarification Jon. Been very tempted on one of these now problems getting ironed out,my old magellan showing its age tho' it does what i want it to,ie give me a grid ref.
With the power bundle I have never flattened the battery in fact it has always still been fully charged at the end of the day but I have only done day walks with it. I do have all the power save features on and always carry a back-up set of batteries though. The only problem I have it makes me lazy with my map reading and have to make myself use my map and compass ocasionally to make sure I don't get rusty especially if it was to ever fail on me!
