Petzel have suggested that the reason Jon (and lots of other people) had difficulty openng the battery box on the new Myo was that it was a pre production model.

Strange that. Cos when we tried one in a shop in Betws Y Coed the week before, people had similar problems. As did the shop assistants.

I didn't have a problem opening it - probably becuase I tend to ignore instructions (like arrows on the lid!) and just use a brute force approach.

However, it wouldn't close properly after I opened it. Good job it wasn't mine really!!

Sounds like Petzel are trying to cover up a bit of poor design work on an otherwise good torch.....

Same here, customers constantly shaking heads and tutting as I feebly try to make opening the battery box as smooth and effortless an operation as possible.
...and its not getting easier!
Otherwise a gerat improvement on the Zoom.
As for the Tikka Plus... very nice indeed :)

Glyn.

Oh yes!
Improved on/off switch, greater range (about 50% more), tilt feature, 'strobe' mode...

I have to admit to looking at the BD Ion a lot recently! Looks great, but I would have prefered a better battery life!

Certainly not the Ion! It takes a watch battery!

I think it's the Tikka Plus.

I've got my eye on the Petzyl Myobelt. The battery life looks really good and it's the same price as the normal Myo 5.

I generally like the Myo and I wouldn't let the battery box thing put you off. It's not so bad once you know which way to pull the lid and the nobble thing makes it easier too if things get sticky.
