Unfortunately for me I have 13 days to take of this year or lose them. It means I have to finish 10th December 2008 at hopefully 1pm until 8am 5th January 2009 when I am back at work. Apart from the odd day such as the 25th I have the time free with no commitments. Anyone got any ideas what to do? I live near the Lakes and unfortunately being this time of the year I won't have spare cash to go anywhere unless relatively cheap.
I don't want to waste the opportunity so any ideas?
You live near the Lakes, with lots of time off work, no major commitments, and you're wondering what to do? Really? Er, you live near the lakes, with lots of time off work, and no major commitments, hint, hint. I'd go walkabout.
Yeah, but where? Just about done it all and get very bored with the same old place after a while. Anyone know any routes out of the ordinary? CB I'm sure you must have an area where you know really well and just looking for something new to do in that area or further away? Change is as good as a rest and all that.
Just ideas for less frequented area I guess. I know what you mean CB but I've been going to the Lakes for probably about 30 years now and even when I get shown new areas I find out I've done them before just forgotten. Any forgotten gems? I mean the ones that haven't appeared in Trail magazine to the annoyance of those who were in the know (secret cave anyone?)
Lots of bits nearish to the Lakes of course, although you've likely done a lot of them too: the north Pennines/Mallestrang, Shap fells, the northern Howgills etc? Calf top (Middleton fell) certainly worth a climb on a clear day.
Failing that, depending on which side you're on, there's always Bowland (the bogs might just be frozen!) or maybe some stuff up in the Southern uplands. A little bit of a drive I suppose.
How about popping over the Border and maybe doing some of the Southern Upland Hills. Moffat is a quaint wee town and basing yourself there would give you several options and it is not too far away from the Lakes.
