Walking trousers - which ones are decent? I see the craghoppers ones everywhere - are they much good? Do they dry fast?
I was a long-time supporter of Lowe Alpine Wilderness Pants for plain old walking, then they were discontinued. I was heartbroken and snapped up odd pairs from outdoor shops that still had stock, but eventually there wasn't a pair left to be had in the country. I then discovered Craghoppers and reckoned they were the next best thing. I like the feel of polycotton for walking, and if they get wet, then they dry again given half a chance. Of course, I'm NEVER completely satisfied with ANYTHING I buy, so I ended up making modifications. Craghoppers had sewn an external pocket onto a pair of trousers that already had six pockets... four of which I'd never use anyway... so I picked all the stitching and removed the entire pocket. The result... a lighter pair of trousers... and an extra zipped pocket-pouch for me... if only I could think of a use for it!
That's dedication for you. I went off the Kiwi polycotton stuff after a winter soaking and now wear the Craghopper Nosquito range all year round as I find this polymide material dries more quickly.
I like Berghaus Cascade trousers. Warm and water resistant, they will eventually wet out in a continuous downpour but they dry pretty quickly and their fit is fairly loose and comfortable.
I wear craghoppers a lot (mostly as knock arounds) but they do need protection in even light rain and the waistband can become sodden if you're working hard, it then takes an age to dry.

I use Paramo trousers for winter. In fact... Paramo EVERYTHING for winter!
