How many of you have walked Cheshire's Sandstone Trail? It's an elevated, 34 mile/55 km walk from Frodsham to Whitchurch along the county's wooded sandstone spine, with great views to Wales and the Pennines. See: www.sandstonetrail.com. It's well worth a look. )

Looks good, great website guide too! I may give this a go in a few months. I was trying to get info on the Bollin way the other day and it was like trying to find shergar, this is a very good example of how a trail should be promoted and then made successful and looked after, well done to the organisers! Will defo give this a go in Spring.

I walked it years ago. Hitch-hiked to Frodsham and bivvied on top of the first hill. Walked the whole route the following day, and hitch-hiked back home. Well worth the walk.

I run on it most days. I ran the whole thing last January (Whitchurch to Frodsham in just under 5:45.) It's the best waymarked trail I've run on. And they are constantly improving it. Fave bits Overton Hill, Delamere, Gresty's Waste, Beeston, Peckforton, Raw Head, Bickerton, basically all the hilly bits I love it!

I'm taking a mate on it in a couple of weeks. He's new to backpacking and I thought this would be a nice gentle introduction for him: half day to start / one full day / half day to finish. I've run quite a bit of the north section, it's a lovely route but very little in the way of campsites. We may try for wild camping but there don't appear many places where we could hide ourselves away. John

Ha, just found the campsite section on the website! ...hangs head in shame. John

Nice site Tony, and an interesting way to promote your "official" guide through your own company website

I'd like to do this walk but need two camp sites along the way. I'll spend 3 days doing the walk ! If anybody's got any tips on the camping side of things I'd love to hear them.

Rod I did this walk twice last year, once split at Beeston as 2 day trips, and once in a day (charity thing). It's a nice walk but a bit sparse for facilities directly on route. Camping wise there's a big Forest Enterprise/Camping & Caravan Club site at Delamere Forest, only about a mile off the route, busy but good facilities. If you're heading north it's at around mile 26 of 34 (plus the detour to/from it), so would leave you a shortish final day. For the first night, I'm not aware of anything - you probably want something within shouting distance of the Peckforton hills stretch (since Beeston is at 17 miles). I know there are pubs at Fullers Moor, Bulkeley and Higher Burwardsley, but I'm not sure if they do accommodation. As for camping, I'll try to have a bit of a dig around this evening and post again if I find anything.

I camped at the Bickerton Poacher on day 2, a good pub (decent ale) with a half-decent campsite. Did I mention it served decent ale? JJ
