Excellent boot. Wore them for 24 hrs straight covering 50miles and got 0 blisters with one pair of socks. Afterwards my feet wore sore but the next were absoulutly fine. The MFS (moulded foot system) creates a realy god hld on the foot very quickly but the leather does take a little longer to break in. The tongue in particular is rather hard and take quite a while the break in (a few other people have metioned this to me). all in all tho probally the best pair of boots i have owned.

Welcome to the forum Nick Borneos are a superb boot - i've had a pair for 12 years and had great adventures in them. Just replaced them with some scarpa new treks, which are a tad lighter and fit my feet well but often stroke the retired borneos in respect and rememberence !!!!

Yes, welcome indeed Nick, great first testimonial post there too!

I've just recently got a pair of Burma Pro's, to replace my 4 year old Karrimor KSB300's I was a little bit aprehensive about leather boots because I've always used fabric. But they are without a doubt the most comfortable boot I've ever worn. I've not had them too long, done about 30miles and they look tired already but I guess that could be normal for leather.

@ecco : I've always worn Borneos and found them to be very good. However, I'm quite tempted by the Scarpa New Treks. Are you glad you made the switch? Cheers, Matt

Yer much happier. I had a pair of karrimor exmoor boots and they blistered quickly. I also wore through the sole in about a year; was not very impressed. I did have a pair of Scarpa enigmas and found that they were too thin on the toes for me. this has been the same for other Scarpa shoes I've tried on in shops.

Matt E - Yes I am . I spent much time humming and hawing and trying them on in shops. The new treks seemed to fit my feet a little better and were lighter. On the downside, I went for the non-lined version which are only 3/4 leather lined, not fully lined like the borneo - Not sure that's an issue or not. The New treks also have labels sown into the inside of the tongue - not sure why but there's potential for rubbing (none so far tho) I've worn them quite a bit on short walks and they have been excellent and v. comfortable but the proof will come this May and scottish backpacking.

Many thanks for the feedback. I would also be buying the non-lined version, so your comments are very useful . I find the Borneos are a little too roomy for my narrow, low volume feet, so I will definitely try on the New Treks, and see if they feel any better. Another option I'm thinking about is to buy a pair of ladies Borneos - I've recently spotted a pair in size 9 !

I found the same thing - borneo 8.5 were too tight and 9's felt roomy. It can be hard to find the unlined NT - most retailers have gone for the GTX version. I had to buy mine online from upandunder after trying on the GTX version.

the lhotse is built on a narrower last, and therefore fits my (also) narrow foot! highly recommended!

I'm on my third set, the first two each lasting me a good 8 years. I laced up my new ones a couple of weeks back and the eye popped out! Took them back to the shop and now waiting on the word back from Meindl on repair or replace. I'm gutted that the latest have developed a fault but still will not deter me from an excellent brand and boot.

The best pair of boots I've ever had, brilliant. Very comfortable and very tough. I've trekked in Nepal, tramped in New Zealand and wandered around the UK. Rain or shine, road, scree, mud, snow and bog, walked through everything, feet stay dry, never had a blister with these boots, and i've had them for years! Just about to buy another pair, that says it all really, going to buy another pair of Meindl Borneo, that's all you need to know. A bit pricey, but i've had my current pair nearly 10 years(I know I should have replaced thenm sooner, but they're so comfy)
10/10!!!

I am on my third pair (I had the first pair re-soled so in a way my fourth pair).I have nothing but praise for them and would not consider any other boots.I have walked 40 miles regularly without blisters.

A follow up to Meindl service on faulty boots. After inspection in the UK the boots were sent back to Germany for repair. When I got them to say I was impressed with the repair is an understatement. It looks like they fully refurbished the boots with new lining, foot beds etc as well as doing an undetectable repair on the eyelet replacement. Very happy with Meindl service as well as their boots.

Great boots but I cannot recommend them. Bought mine just over 2 years ago but my experience has not been great. Had a pair of Dolomite prior which lasted me close to 10 years. Decided to buy top notch and these are top notch top price boots. I was not disappointed initially. These boots were so comfy i wore them ALL the time (apart from work and formal occasions). Unfortunately the leather split despite being polished weekly and the heel lining split also (not too much of a bother). The straw that broke the camels back was when the sole came away on the right boot, closely followed about 6 weeks later by the left. I decided then to return the boots via Black to see what could be done. They went away to Deutschland to be returned 8 weeks later stating they were beyond repair and out of warranty. NOT HAPPY - why did it take 8 weeks and why were they beyond repair. Dog walking and normal leisure wear - nothing else. I really wanted them repaired (I LOVE THEM) but I will not buy another pair as I simply cannot afford for the same to happen again.
