I am curious is anyone out there ownes a Tulloch Mountain Craft tent or gear. The reason for asking is that my Father, John Cameron, built the company. When he passed away a few years ago, I found out about the gear, and have been searching for pictures etc. of any items. I've only come across one reference to the tent online. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well, I think your father's company's tent has a considerable claim to fame, in that it was the tent used by Hamish Brown for the "First Traverse of all the Scottish Munros in One Journey" in 1974.
The book about the walk is called "Hamish's Mountain Walk", published by Paladin, ISBN 0 586 08332 4
Here's the bit about the tent:
"Tent: I had one of Dave Challis' Tulloch Mountaincraft tents. It weighed a bit over 3lb. The groundsheet was tray-shaped (to float above all wetness) but instead of being sewn-in, which ensures that condensation drains inboard, it was held in place by elastic tabs to the tent proper, which was simple single skin nylon one, high at the front and streamlined to the feet end. Condensation thus ran down to the ground harmlessly. No inner needed. Door extensions were made of cotton and zipped in various ways. It had valances. In a hurry 8 pegs saw it erected."
There are pictures of the tent in the book, and details of all the pitches, and no doubt some other comments.
I am Dickie Grant's grandson who was one of the three directors of TMC. In May 2010 I used a pair of glove inners I found in Nepal whilst I was trekking with my father and Chris Bonington to commemorate the 50th anniversary my grandad and Chris's first accent of Annapurna 2 the glove inners went to the base camp and then over the telicho pass above the worlds heighest lake they worked aswell as any new ones I have owned! I have a load of letter headed paper from TMC after clearing my grandma's house if you would like me to send you some?
