A few friends and I are going to walk the WHW in latemarch/april, it will be my baptism into hiking, however the group includes a couple very experienced walkers.
What I would like to know is if anyone could recommend somewhere in Glasgow or Dundee (I am in Fife during term time, student..) that I could find a good range of walking shoes/boots, from reading the concensus seems to be trainers/shoes are good for WHW.
I have size 12/13 feet, it varies, so any advise on bigger feet would be helpful.
I should also add to this, how much should we be spending on a tent, from 20 qquid argos to 300 elite stuff. It will be a 2 person tent, only needs to last the 8 days.
If you're in Glasgow, it's worth going to the mega-Tiso Outdoor Experience store in Coupar St - just up the hill from Queen St Station. Not only does it have a big range of boots and lighter weight footwear, but there is also a good running shoe shop on the top floor - run4it - which has a good selection of the kind of trail-shoe/trainers you might prefer for the WHW. You can browse the Run-4-It range by size here - quite a few contenders from Salomon and Inov-8 came up when I typed in size 13.
As for a two person tent you could do better than Argos really! Try getting hold of a nicer Vango tent for around the seventy to eighty quid mark really. Or in Argos you could both buy yourselves each a one man Pro Action Tiger Paws tent that would do the job.
