need some help from an ITgeeky or two...

AVG has just expired on my pc - i mean run out of time (trial version) and i really can't
afford to shell out on antivirus software ... so is there an equivalent to this really good little antivirus software ....really fed up they decided to charge for it but it was coming i suppose...

plus anyone know which CMS - content management system for a small we're talking under 5 pages website - must not be too complex ..

cheers!

AV wise I use avast, but why dont you use AVG free edition?

http://free.avg.com/download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition

think you just have to re-register

Actually I can answer that! First of all delete that from your system! Remove the program, then go to filehippo.com and choose a new free antivirus, like I do. I'm currently using AVG too, but there are others free to use there. Either that or go to get a free one at download.com.

AVG still offers a free version, doesn't it? My sister-in-law was using a free version, and it appeared to expire, with the only option appearing to be a paid-for version. When I explored, that wasn't the case at all, and she was able to continue using an updated free version. All I can remember (it was late last year) was that the clickable link to download the updated free version was pretty small and well-hidden... but it was available!

If you can't get it to work next time or it runs out again you could always use 'Avira' Antivirus. That's free and it's what I use.

I'd remove the virus known as Windows (various strains include XP, Vista...) and install some antivirus software such as a Linux distribution or Mac OSX...

AVG - free
Adaware - free
Spybot - free
Common sense - free but occasionally in limited supply

Haven't had an issue for over 10 years now and I'm not the most innocent of downloaders.....

skint bint, why are you downloading 'trial versions'??  Just download AVG free - it's, erm, free, and isn't a trial version...

I use a setup similar to MattW above, I use...

Avast Anti Virus
Windows Firewall
Windows Defender
Windows Update keeps my Windows up to date

All downloadable  and compleely free and too never had a problem for nearly ten years.

You really do not need to fork out for software to protect your PC these days. I'm a Senior Desktop Analyst and get asked to setup peoples personal laptops and PC's every week and evryone I setup with the above free setups and show them and make sure they keep them all up to date have never come back to me with virus problems.
