I take it Mammut will do a new for old swap for those of us loyal customers who have Raichle boots but would really like a mammoth on ours too?.....

I've had 3 different pairs of raichle footwear and 3 times have been v disappointed by the build quality and the durability. Never again. Mtn hike - fell apart on GR20 Scout - soles wore down in record time despite not much use G3 shoes - all the plasticy bits cracked and the stitching came lose after 3 months There does seem to be two camps with Raichle - camp1 (love 'em cos they're comfy) or camp2 (had 'em and they fall apart) I think it could be that some are made in romania and some are made in china. Has anyone else noticed this?

Know where you are coming from! Really comfortable boots but build quality seems to be lacking! I broke a pair trying them on in the shop and my pair looked battle scarred beyond their age after a few months.

I'm afraid I reluctantly have to agree. Scout ; soles wore down to nothing in a year. Sierra: much better soles but the stitching is coming out after a year. Barely any waterproofness left on either. And yes, they are the most comfortable boots I've ever owned D

Mt Trail gtx - rand started coming off - Raichle stuck it back Mt Trail xt gtx - rand started coming off, stuck it back myself Have just bought 2nd pair of Mt Trail xt gtx as first pair are getting old and they don't appear on Raichle / Mammut's website any more - in women's fit. Though Raichle have told me they haven't discontinued this boot, why isn't it on their website? 60 degrees - gtx lining in right boot defective, leaks after a short while. Raichle / Mammut emailed; awaiting response. Raichle and Kayland are the only boots I've found that work for me, and they're really comfy, so I'll live with the peely rands, though actually on the newer Mt Trail xts, the rand is different and I suspect a lot less likely to peel.

if they were cheap then it would be ok and possibly expected; but they're not, so it's not okay let's hope the quality improves now they're in the Mammut stable.

Hmmm......I've been winter walking in Scotland in a pair of 60 Degrees for 4 years, and bought a pair of Trail XT GTX's last year - both pairs v comfy and looking good. Maybe I need to get out more.....
|
 |
My GTX XT's have lasted brilliantly - they've now done about 1000 miles and have had no problems. A bit of sole peeling, but that's just because it's worn so thin. My 80 Degrees are as new apart from a clobbered lace-ring and they've been hammered: trodden on them in crampons, smashed them into bits of rock, ice, and allround caned them. My only concern with Raichle is their customer service - my brother wanted a new pair of laces and never got a reply. If they've made the Raichle/Mammut brand more simple and transparent that should help this.

No problems here! I love them.

So we've established the two camps then!! For those happy with their boots, are they made in romania? For those unhappy, are they made in china? Or is it a mix? I would think that the Romania boots would be ok. Sadly my boots are all in boot heaven now so I can't check where they were made. If it turns out that the good boots are made in the same place then I might return to Raichle as they are super comfy.

 |
That's an interesting point. Both my boots (happy with) are Romanian. Like Sportiva's Evos the 80 Degrees I've got are sold at a loss, so I'd be dissapointed if a 'flagship' model could be bumped off to China. China's quality control has divided people too: Rab have had many criticisms on their latest gear, yet other brands seem to have not changed. I'd be gutted to buy a £400 Arcteryx jacket to find it has been made in China, though.

cotswolds in covent garden had raichle on sale.
|
 |
PA - they're always on sale somewhere. Cotswold seem to have had them on offer for 6 months now. Anyway... back to the factory location. Is it really an indication of the quality? i.e. are Romanian boots fab and Chinese made boots shite? Or in practice, is it just that they are prone to making dodgy batches of boots? hence the perma-sale of Raichle in many shops 'cos their name has taken a bashing.

 > I'd be gutted to buy a £400 Arcteryx jacket to find it has been made in China, though. A lot of Arc's soft shells are now made in China. And still reassurungly expensive. Not £400, though...

My Mt Trail xt gtxs were made in Romania (both pairs); the 60 degrees are Italian, but I'm not sure that's relevant: I think the problem with the peely rand was because of the design - it narrowed towards the end at exactly the point where the foot bends. And one of the 60s has a defective liner. They haven't emailed back yet mind.

Both my well used and intact pairs Romanian...been out in the GTXs again this weekend, through snow, ice, mud, bog and rain - just another Scottish Saturday, then - and tried to find something to complain about but just can't. But I see my brand new Scouts, bought at the end of the summer sales and so as yet untried, are made in China. I'd let you know, if I thought anyone would care enough to come back to this page in September...

I've got all-degree lites and i loody love them, never had a blister - had a black toe from running down the mountain track on the Ben from the Lochan, but no blisters. I did lose a lace ring this week, but its a high ankle one and I lace by wrapping round usually so its no loss. £70 in Peglers half price sale 18 months ago - proper bargain.

Ive got a pair of Sierras and they are very comfy and keep my feet dry. However the build quality is suspect as i have had two lace eyelets come out when lacing em up. I have had them repaired and the guys at outdoor elements have footed the repair so can't complain there. I had a pair of mountain trail xt's but to be honest i found my feet got to hot in em so i ebay'd em. Would buy again as the fit for me is fine, but the suspect build would have to be taken into consideration.

I've had my Mount Trail GTX's for a good few years now, using them once a year for a week in the Lakes and walking the dogs at home. As you all say, v comfy, but the rands have disintergrated. 2 established shops in the Lakes say to send them back. Anyone have a contact that works or expereince with dealing with Raichle/Mammot?

Hi Richard I just emailed Raichle / Mammut using this contact form. Seemed to work ok, got very helpful replies from their UK rep.
