Hi everyone -

You've all always been so helpful in answering previous questions, so here goes...

I have my ML(S), first aid, CRB etc. and have been asked to provide my services for a company running some outdoor training.

When I have done outdoor work in the past, as I understand it, I have been covered under the company's insurance and have therefore never looked at my own cover.

As I am unsure about this particular company's insurance cover, I am investigating the possibility of sorting out my own...

Do I need Public Liability Insurance, or something else instead or as well?

This is not my full time employment, I tend to do this in my "free" time, so would always be looking for the cheapest solution.

Thanks in advance everyone!!

Simon I think you should contact the company running the outdoor training and get them to include you on their insurance cover. I would also ask to see their insurance cover.

Activity Business Liability Insurance is very expensive. Talk to the Sports Section of Perkins Slade 0121 698 8053 if in doubt.

Hi Simon,

This is dead simple.

Contact the MLTA (Mountain Leader Training Association)...

What I dont get is this.

The MLTA insurance is arranged through Perkins Slade......and is, I think, half the price than if you go to PS direct.......

I know there will be group discounts and it'll be a block policy and all that.....but...

Totally agree i was quoted £267 direct, paid £132.   But then again the good lady had her car isurance renewal £312 from churchill, so we shoped around Lloyds TSB quoted £204 for same cover with less excess.  When we read the small print it was through churchill!!!   All out for the moneY!!!!  They play on lazyness

Simon neither do I. I was paying almost 3 times the amount shown. I wasn't aware this discount was available until you mentioned it recently. A bit annoyed now and of course too late. Perkins Slade has now upped their 5 million to 10 million recently.

£5M is, IMHO, the absolute minimum these days - I was selling PL insurance at £5M nearly 20 years ago and if you want any contracts with public sector you will almost certainly be required to have £5M minimum in anycase regardless.

It would be interesting to see how much extra £10M would cost....bet it isnt that miuch
