Do we know any more details about when it comes out on general release?
Hope you have a great day Ian...I wish I was going!

The actual film itself is only £10 and if you see it on Sun 16th its only £6.
As for general release, I'm not sure. I think its a Film on Four production so it might only be released as a special interest film not found in your usual cinema. I hope I'm wrong though.

All I know is that it's not due on general release 'until 2004', but nothing more exact. I'll try and find out.

And I think the implication is that it will be on general release by the way. It's a pretty big project. If you get hold of a copy of this year's Berghaus consumer brochure, there's a four-page plus article by Cubby Cuthbertson who did the stunt work on the film, including the big fall into the crevasse. Even the re-created fall sounds pretty scary. They had him going a long way off a big serac apparently, then made him do it again because the first time wasn't scary looking enough... Nice.

Train to Oxenholme - Virgin, www.nationalrail.co.uk - no 41 bus to Kendal, every half hour or so in summer, - www.traveline.org.uk or 01946 695443, takes about 15 mins.

This was excellent, first time I've been. I went to Joe Simpson's talk on saturday night and the Touching the Void film on sunday. Joe's talk was good, basically a run through of his 5 books with slides.
And the 2TV film, Wow, that really was amazing. The added dialogue from Joe, Simon & Richard (who I could barely remember from the book, well it 5 years ago that I read it!) really worked. Be interesting to how well it does on general release.
Good to see some fellow OMs, Phil building up a collection of Climbing Greats Top Trumps, and Alex meeting someone with more Trail appearances than himself - Al Hinkes, even bought the man a pint!
Also managed a good day out on saturday, Red Screes and Dove Crag from Ambleside, wet but always out of the clouds. Views on a short stroll onto Wansfell on sunday morning were excellent too.
I'll definitely be bookmarking the event in next year's diary when I intend to see some of the other talks & films. Must remember to book some accomm earlier though, did get back to Troutbeck YH before being locked out.
Glad to hear you got back to Troutbeck ok Lloyd.
As perhaps the ONLY person who has not read the book all the way through, I found the film absolutely riveting. I know that he's going to make it back, but it's the story and the way that it is done that makes it...just so enthralling.
Why this isn't going on full general release I just don't know.
Oh and Al Hinkes has only got a couple of appearances on me...and now he owes me a pint too. (BTW he's doing a lecture at Rheghed next Sunday...)
You've more chance of getting that pint than I have of....well never mind its just not going to happen . I've accepted it and its about time you did!
We saw Touching the Void on Sunday at Rheged and I was really impressed too.
Alex, it is going on limited general release (if there is such a thing) from Dec 12th.
Guess the simple answer is that "they" dont feel that it will sell enough tickets to be financially viable as a general release. (Whoever "they" are)

The point is that the producer of teh film said "tell your friends about it", but if it's not being shown outside of the major (really big) towns then people who live in Stafford aren't going to get the chance of seeing it easily.
I know it's all down to money, but it's just a shame.
Oh and Phil, you are SOOOOOOOOOOOO right. Al is, after all, a professional Yorkshireman.
I understand it's going to be on at the printworks in Manchester. I know that's not Stafford, but still it's something.
It's showing at the Warner Village in Leeds 12 December, 2003. But that, of course, is a little way from Stafford....
And in Birmingham - UGC and Warner Village
If they make a big enough success at these venus it might spread. If not they will release a DVD at least for sale in the outdoors shops.
Its on at the multiplex thingy in "Greenwich" (near the blackwall tunnel).
And at the Odeon "Covent Garden" (think they might mean Leicester Sq).
Not a lot of help for you Alex, but about as helpful as it gets for any south-eastern types.
Cant remember off the top of my head if it was gonna be on anywhere else in the south east.
