Its good kit no doubt about it but I would never buy/wear any of it simply because of the amount of people you see in the high street, fashion wearers wearing it. Its just a bit of tainted brand IMO.
Yeah it is but I'd rather go with other brands because of the amount of for want of a better word chavs who wear TNF. It just annoys me the amount of people who like to look 'outdoors' but who never leave the city/suburbia etc.
Benco said 'Fair enough, Any idea why has TNF become such an urban fashion brand?'
TNF probably cracked it at the ski resorts with the Nuptse Down jacket
I personally feel they have some good bits of kit (and bad) but at least they will make you ponder occasionally with things like battery warmed fleeces and other mad kit. They also probably inspire other manufacturers that don't have to compromise to a larger market, to produce brilliant specialist kit on the back of TNF's huge design budget
I have a fave which is the redpoint optimus belay jacket -- on my fourth one! and I will most often choose this over about 5 different options for general winter climbing. Got a few other bits that I go for a lot too..
Although I don't necessarily like the 'brand' thing they have defo got some 'fit for purpose' kit
p.s. on the chav front don't actually bump into many after base camp pubs
TNF do seem to have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to plastering their logo all over their products.
My favourite gloves are pair of TNF powerstretch which are great, tough, quick drying, fit like a second skin etc etc.....but why do they have to have an enormous TNF badge slapped on the back of each glove? does such a huge slab of embroidery add anything to their performance? No.
