There is a couple of things that you can do. Firstly find out what boots the storeman wants you to have, secondly, go to a retailer (a good one) with a good boot fitting service and try the boot on.
Things to bear in mind; have you had your feet measured recently? What was the size you were given, including a width fitting. If you have your feet measured at a good fitting service, you will have your feet measured whilst sat and stood. You will have the length, width and then the heal to ball measuerd. The shop assitant who has measured your feet can then give you these numbers. If you trust the bloke in the stores at your club, these numbers will mean some thing to him and he will be able to pick a boot to suite. As people have already said this is a starting ground, but an experienced boot fitter should not get it too wrong.
Once you have this fitting information people will be in a better position to advice.
There is a boot making company called Altberg in Richmond, N Yorks. They do a range of sizes including 1/2 and they are avaiable in 5 width fittings. All boots are made to the same last, well the same 5 lasts! They also have courteous, knowledgable, professional fitters there who help you get fitted correctly. Obviously using your input during the fitting.
Thanks for the replies everyone! Thanks for this comment justin, i have been to altberg before, my issue assault boots (not the boots in question), are made by Altberg, they are very comfortable, and have served me well thus far, however one of the blokes that worked the shop was a bit of a pain in the bum to be honest. Telling me that the RAF won't pay for the boots I thought i needed, a bit strange considering they usualy pay for anything...
I can't comment on that but my wife got some walking boots there last year and the guys there were great. An excellent fitting service, nice friendly staff, fab product knowledge. My Meindl Borneo are currently on their last legs and I was so impressed with them I know where I'm going to get my next pair of boots! Luckily for me its not too far from Leeds.
