This time next year I'll hopefully be over in the Uk studying medicine...I'm applying to a few different colleges and wanted to know if anyone knew anything about..
Bristol University Kings College London University of Wales College of Med.
In regards to local walls, access, and climbing/mountaineering clubs...
Not a major factor, but would be nice to know none the less.
Great wall in Bristol, funnily enough called The Bristol Climbing Centre. Its in an old church! Good choice of routes for all grades that are changed weekly.
UHWCofM, Cardiff is an excellant site attached to the largest Hospital in Wales, the University Hospital of Wales. It has an Accident and Emergency Department serving the largest population of Wales in the South and specialises in Neurological and Cardi Thorasic medicine. It also has a premia Paediatric facility.
There is are two excellant climbing walls within a 50 mile radius, one at Crickhowell Powys and another in the Mid glam valleys near Bedlinog.
There are hundreds of limestone quarries in the South Wales are, we are two hours or less from Snowdonia and the numerous quarries of the North Wales area!
Tony: "two hours or less from Cardiff to Snowdonia"? Do you fly? It takes a good three to four hours up the A470, which way do you go? As for climbing walls, you also have WICC in Treharris, which is the one most frequented by the medics and a small wall at the Channel View Leisure Centre located in Cardiff itself. On the social side, Cardiff is fantastic with one of the best social clubs in the medical world (apparently).
Yes sorry Heidi, I was thinking of the travelling time from where I am, not Cardiff. The Treharris wall was the one I was referrring to, and I can confirm your last statement!!
Err there is also the Wall at Glamorgan Uni (Trefforest/Ponty) Not sure though what the membership rules are I'll find out Next week when I go back and put them up, I'm toldthe wall is good.
