Sorry if the answer to this is obvious.

I just put up my TN Laser to test it.  I followed the video and got it up, but the inner and outer on the opposite side to the door seemed a bit close.  I felt I could fix this by tightening the guy lines at the ends that pulls out the carbon rods.

But as you see below, once I figured out how to attach them, I found that the adjusting widget was already at the top.  Do I cut the cord shorter or is there some technique to tightening it?

Slide the adjuster down the line a bit.  The tent-end should be a single line, the peg-end should be a dual line forming a natural loop, which the peg goes into.  Slide the adjuster towards the peg and that will increase the amount of doubled line, and thus the length of the total line, shortening/tightening it.  Slide it towards the tent and that will lengthen/loosen it.

Pete.

Hmm, the opposite happens for me, when I slide it up towards the tent it shortens/tightens.

When fully extended the cord goes through the adjuster in an S shape and at the end of th S it is tied with a knot.  I can pull the cord on the back of the adjuster (below the knot) to make a loop, and above the adjuster is a single line and I get to the top before I think it's taught enough.

I dunno, here's a wider view.  Does it look normal?

Hmm, looking again, I think I got the carbon rods pointing the wrong way (in rather than out, might that be the cause?)

Hi Group 51.  Can't help, but couldn't miss the chance for three South Londoners on the thread, now I'm awake from my nap.

Don't worry - Matt will be along soon with a solution....

Dave is around but having watched him try and pitch a Laser Comp he obviously does not really know what he is doing

Untie the knot, pull the string 3" (7 1/2 cms)  through the S and retie the knot.  Is it really that simple or have I misunderstood the question.

Just had a look at your other photo, looks like you have attached the guy to the same peg as the end of the flysheet, you need to use another peg for the guy further out from the end of the tent...then the guy line is not too long and it will give the fly the tension it needs.

Come to think of it (looking at the photos again) I reckon the tents a dud...no good at all....Hmmmm.....Tell you what, I'll do you a favour and take it off your hands for 50 quid.

Well, I followed the video demo which used the same peg. I am very happy with th space in the tent when in it, very much longer than my Vango Spirit, and I can sit up quite happily.

Benco's right......   about the pegs, not that it's a dud tent!

I've got a Laser Comp rather than a Laser, but it's one peg for the base of the outer and the cord from the inner, and then a separate peg for that guy from the top of the end of the outer. And the carbon stay should lean outwards.

I don't know if the ventilation system on the Laser's ends affects the first inner/outer peg at all, but it's definitely a second peg for the guy!

I stand corrected

Still...using a second peg should sort that guy line problem.

It's a slightly different guyline runner but it should work the same as the metal one on your Laser.  The loop the peg goes into is made from the two lines running out of the top in this picture.  The single line coming from the bottom is the single end that attachas to the tent.

So slide the runner towards the tent (bottom right in this pic) and there will be more loop so a shorter length.  Slide the runner away  (top centre in this pic) and there will be more single line so a longer length.

The knot is just to anchor the cord and it always stays at the runner.

Any clearer?

Pete.

The Laser Comp definitely pitches much better if you extend the end guys out a bit and use a different peg for these, than the ones for the fly-sheet end points. If you want a good tight pitch, I think these are the two most important peg points, so forget about the 2g ti pegs and get some decent Y-pegs or something. I always take 4 Y-pegs with my LC, no matter the weather forecast.

F-ing hell, I agree about the tent pegs.  I don't need super light pegs.  These tooth picks bend too easily in hardish ground.  Probably fine on campsites though.

I also realised that the far ends of the fly are supposed to hang down and not be pegged (necessarily).

Campsites do hardish ground too, with enough good weather.  We were cycle-touring Norfolk in the very hot summer 3 yeas ago and the ground on the formal sites was like iron.  Had to bang the pegs in with rocks.

Pete.
