Well, I will find out in two days time whether my solutions work. first step is compeed blister prevention stick all over my heels. Second step is double skin socks followed by regular changes to a wool rich pair followed by a pair of smartwool. Third step is a change of shoes. After that it is compeed blister plasters then if that fails it is pain for the rest of the stroll.

I asked at Pete Bland shop in Kendal for the best solution to prevent blisters. They basically said the hilly socks, when I asked about using the zinc oxide tape the assistant said it is more used for strapping up injuries and that it is not suitable for blister prevention. Hmmm, I thought! Zinc oxide is a remedy as old as surgical spirit to toughen feet. It has been around in the running world for years. Anyway too late to try it now.

Thanks for your advice guys and gals. See you after the blister free weekend.

I don't think it's been mentioned thus far, so maybe it's duff advice, but I'm sure I heard somewhere that putting lots of talcum powder on your feet helps (I'm sure I recall somebody saying that's what the army do on long walks/yomps).  Never tried it myself, as I've been fortunate enough never to suffer from blisters.

But has anyone else heard about using talc powder, or did I dream it???

Yes you heard right, not lots though, just enough to give a 'light coating'. This was before the 'new' boots came in, and good 'hiking' socks. They have better boots now which 'breath', (some with Goretex, etc.) and proper socks, one of the first things people did was go to an "outdoor" shop and get a good pair of socks!!   But I wouldn't use talc with these, makes them 'hold' water more!!   A lot of people would also buy Danner boots, used by US forces, much better than 'normal' issue, would only use issued ones when had to!!       If you look closely at footage/pics of Paras/ Marines, tabing/yomping across Falklands you would see what I mean, nearly all are using 'non standard' footwear'.  h
