That was a good price then

I thought so. KK, the heat given off might be problematic in a bivvy bag but not in a tent. You can comfortably hold your hand about 6 inches above the lamp and it is completely enclosed so no danger of setting your tent alight...unless you're really trying to, that is.

Hmm might have to get to a Poundland, even if the LED lamp's not great can't go wrong for a quid, ditto one or two other items there like the camping mat: just the thing for rolling out and lieing on, at a camp site. Might consider the pillow too - was considering an expensive Ajungilak but really, its just a blow up plastic bag for goodness sake, with a smooth-furry covering and the Ajungilak's about £15.

You get what you pay for of course and in the case of the Ajungilak pillow you get a nice label with Ajungilak embroidered on!!

Hi all. I have tried the UCO candle lamps, and was disapointed at how little light they put out. I also have a multi branded LED lamp (similar to the one from alpkit, but mine was from Blacks). The mini LED lamp is actually more effective than some 4 D cell ones I have (for larger tents). But my current backpacking light is very simple. I use an Alpkit Gamma when walking, so simply put it in my gear loft (only 16g), and hey presto, I have a variable light output, and variable colour tent light!. If, however, i wanted some heat as well, then I would simply pop a tea light into an inverted mini bull stove.

I'll second Diddy! Alpkit's BULB is a beauuuuuuuuty. £15 (incl p&p). Buy one NOW, you won't regret it..........

Mine arrived this morning - no regrets yet. Seems well made and is very bright - lights up my cellar very well so should not have a problem lighting up a tent. Alpkit produce the goods yet again.

Bought the Poundland lamp referred to earlier. Build is a bit crude but that doesn't bother me, though with 12 LEDs I was expecting something brighter. As it is, I'd say its only just acceptable for reading. Be OK for camp site camping, far too big for backpacking style fun. Don't feel ripped off because its only a quid, but I was expecting it would be brighter. Got the Poundland pillow too - looks OK, like it will do the business, and its light and compact enough not to worry about in a pack. Ajungilak? - bah, overpricing fools, you don't fool me.

Hi again all. I know this is a tent light thread, but some have mentioned pillows here too. If I were after a very light pilow, I tend to use the "travel" ones which are designed to fit around your neck while on a coach or in a car etc. They are very light and have a nice flock finish. All that I do to make them suitable for backpacking is to superglue to two "ends" (two parts either side of your neck) together. This makes a very comfy blow up pillow, and weighs very little. An even lighter option (as it is already in my pack) is to put a fleece (or anything else) into a roll top dry bag, and then do it up (but with plenty of excess air inside). The fleece/other garment will give the comfort, and stop the bag unrolling, while the extra airspace provides loft!
