If people want to tick lists, follow waymarked trails (National or whatever), get badges and certificates for doing it, and get their name on some list for it then fine - if it floats their boat and gets them out there enjoying it, then all well and good for them.
But this from the introductory lines on the LDWA link above....
"LDWA members are, after all, long distance walkers and the highest accolade for British walkers must surely be to complete all of the principal long distance paths in their own country."
It was called the Wolds Way for years and I cannot understand why it had to be changed. It's a brilliant walk; we did it soon after it opened in 1982.
The "Yorkshire" prefix was added quite recently - allegedly in case Southerners didn't know where the Wolds were - but then why not add a county/location name in front of the East Anglia Peddars Way, or Yorkshire Lyke Wake Walk?
They'll be changing the Pennine Way to "The North of England Pennine Way" soon!
