It's supposed to work for the ipod touch according to all the marketing blurb, though I've only tested it on the iPhone.

I've downloaded it and it's a bit bonkers. It is mostly a grey screen; when it eventually does something it's not right. I put in the post code of my local post office and it says I'm in Rutland.

Perhaps I'm missing something but I don't understand why this is all free of charge, yet Satmap are charging top dollar for the same maps. The guys web site is a bit amateurish, and the English is worse, so perhaps it’s all just a bit too good to be true?

 > Perhaps I'm missing something but I don't understand why this is all free of charge, yet Satmap are charging top dollar for the same maps. Becuase it's a portal to the free OS OpenSpace mapping data. You need to have an internet connection to get to the mapping data. With SatMap (or similar), you buy the mapping covering an area, and carry it with you, so you don't need a data connection. Of course, if the thing caches mapping data, you can 'fly through' your route beforehand and used the cached data when you're out of data contact. The big question remains: why is OS mapping so expensive; that's the real cost of mapping systems like SatMap. I've been trying to persuade my colleague who does WheresThePath to re-target to iPhone and sell applets... I searched for iosmap on the iStore, and it gave no hits...

I don't mind the cost of the mapping if it were a buy once option. What I don't like is the licencing that means you have to buy another copy for each application. There should be a universal map format that works with MM, Anquet, Quo, Satmap and all the others.

 > What I don't like is the licencing that means you have to buy another copy for each application. Indeed; it's an utter rip-off by the OS, IMHO.

Well I've just tried it on my iPhone and basically it doesn't work. It found my location OK. but whenever I put in a new location it briefly begins to display the map then goes back to my current location.

At least it didn't say you were in Rutland, Chris!

Ha! It just found me - or slightly close; it thinks I'm in the road junction near the Town Hall. I'm 1/4 mile away. What is more worrying is that the building I am in is marked as a detached "School". My very large building was erected (various portions) between 1898 and 1920

Okay all you savvy iPeople, where do iFind iOSmap on the iStore...?

Thanks Dave. Any idea why the article said AppStore, since it doesn't seem to be available there...? <or is it just me?>

Oh, blast; it re-directs to iTunes. That may be the problem; I don't have iTunes installed... <although I still don't see why AppStore should find no hits for the thing...>

When I first spotted it it was on AppStore, then it vanished, then it was there through iTunes. I can't find it on App Store either now.

I have had this app for a little while now... its terrible

Hey, I've managed to install this via the apps store on the iPhone today. It seems to work ok for me, via my broadband, but once on GRPS, like most things it runs like a dog. I'll try it somewhere if I ever get a 3G connection and will report back. Off to the lakes this weekend so it will be of limited use!!I like it as its free but I'd never think of it as a competitor to SatMap or such likes.

Oh, this is a nice step forward. It found my exact location at home (as it should since I have my Wifi box registered). I typed in my work post code and that loaded too.
A bit too slow over wifi though, and seems to have poor cacheing. And just waking it from sleep, it has taken me home again, so I'm not confident of its tracking facilities.
So very 1.0, but we're getting there!
