Hi

Just been out in my first 'official' walking boots. Very nice but feel like I'm gonna develop blisters beween my fingers from tying  as had to lace up a few times. Any ideas on how i can tie the laces up tight but avoid the blisters?

Brilliant forum, new to it but I know where to come for advice, a laugh or abuse. Thanks!

Cheers

Steve

Hello Laylos, welcome to the forum, which you've so nicely summarised in your post!

I'd maybe consider two options - only the second might require forking out, so try the first first, unless you've already done so.

After doing up the laces, take the ends and just tie them in a simple knot - something I was always told was 'a double bow'. This may stop some of the slippage, and has the added advantage of neatly tucking away excess lace.

If this doesn't work, I might try a different pair of laces - sounds as if they might not have sufficient 'grip' to stay tied up.

Best of luck, and happy walking

Where you tieing the laces....top of the boot?

If it is, try doing and overhand knot on the eyes/hooks below the top, then tie an double bow on the top ones.

Or, do as Kate said...get new laces

There is also a fairly sizeable webpage somewhere which is devoted exclusively to the different ways to do up shoe laces.... Not got a link around right now but I'm sure someone will be along with one shortly

Cheers everyone

Went out again today and seemed a bit better, I think I'll persist for a while and see how it all goes with the laces I have.

I did NikWax them the day before and was wondering if maybe had left some of the wax in the eyes and maybe they went on the laces.

Will look at the lacing website and see what they say too.

 Thanks once again!

 All the best

Steve

This depends on your socks and the length of your laces, but you can often just tuck them in.

Were the boots, at least, comfortable?

Very very nice!  My partner and I were saynig how they feel more comfortable than 'normal' shoes due to the support and body posture they provide.

Maybe talking a bit of quaff but take it easy on me, I'm a newbie ..more used to sitting behind a desk typing on a keyboard...but not anymore...the outdoors for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm living in Berlin and the shoes are called 'Yukon' made by Hanwag.  Looking at the interweb doesn't seem to big in the UK but people would like them to be; i feel.

Cheers

I wear Hanwag boots myself and have done for more than 20 years, they are very comfortable for me too.

So long as the boots are OK, you should be able to sort out the lacing with this ideas above.
