Hi Ed, Cheers for the reply, your camping weights seems to be a bit lighter than mine. What kind of weight is the likes of your tent, sleeping gear & warm & hard shell. Cheers, Stephen

Depends which of the myriad tents or bags I own that I take TBH Stephen; summer - Hex and MLD Bug Bivvy comes in sub 1kg, the Unna 1.8kg....my Western bag is 500g but I only use it when going somewhere wark, otherwise the PD400 is 768g. And I use a Rab Q600 for cold times - 1268g Summer shell is a NF Diad (252g) and the only warm layer I take is a Montane Balance (250). The sad thing is I did not have to look any of those weights up

About 9.5kg for non-winter but that includes my Exped downmat (989g but blissfully comfortable) camera, binoculars and trekking poles.

 I done this list for a laugh, I think weight/cost isn't too bad for summer use. Shelter Pro Action Hike-Lite - £24.99 - 1719g Pegs Terra Nova 5g Ti x 6 - £14.99 - 30g Total - 1749g Cost - £39.98 Sleeping System Tesco Down Bag - £34.26 - 800g Eurohike 2 Season Closed Cell Mat - £4.99 - 198g Total - 998g Cost - £39.25 Cooking Antigravity Gear 3 Cup (700ml) Pot & Lid - £8.50 - 110g Antigravity Gear Pot Lifter - £2.50 - 34g Stove - Gelert Intensity - £12.75 - 87g Windshield - BPL.UK Ultralight Foil Windshield - £6.99 - 63g Hydration - Drinksafe Systems Travel Tap Bottle 650ml - £34.99 - 150g Hydration - Source Liquitainer 2.0L - £6.99 - 35g Total - 479g Cost - £72.72 Utensils etc. Mug - Gelert Plastic 275ml - £0.90 - 55g Spork - Lifeventure Lexan Spork - £2.49 - 14g Total - 69g Cost - £3.39 Lighting Energizer 3 LED Headlight - £9.95 - 70g Total - 70g Cost - £9.95 Rucksack Karrimor Bobcat 65L - 1480g - £50.00 Total - 1480g Cost - £50.00 Total 4845g @ £217.78 You could knock a bit off weight & cost by using an empty Mineral Water bottle and puritabs but the Travel tap is good gear in anyones book. The Cooking system wouldn't be improved much without spending significantly more and I opted for Gas as the Porch on the Hike-Lite is a bit small to play around with meths. Tent wise the Gelert Solo is lighter/cheaper but much smaller and has Fiberglass pole which seem prone to splitting.

Cheers R_mac, thats defintely a very cost efficent list.

I wonder what percentage increase in cost you'd need to make to reduce the weight by say 25%
|
 |
The tent and rucksack are the areas you're going to make big weight savings but only at significant cost... - Osprey Exos 58 1140g @ circa £150
- TN Laser Photon 790g @ circa £330
New weight = 3576g New Cost = £622.79 So you've got your 25% weight saving, but at a cost of £400! Obviously these aren't the only lighter products or the best prices you can buy them at, but it's one option with indicitive pricing...

Me + dog For 2 nights including food, water, flask, additional fuel, gas lantern, dog fod, dog coat / bed / bowl camera, downmat 7.... The dog food is 440g per day. And all the normal camping stuff. I appreciate that it isnt a base weight but I think 12.1 kg is pretty good for that lot. Add about 1kg for winter. This week I picked up a 5kg Pony Pelvis and strapped it to my rucksack while I was at my furthest point away... I though my little lad might be interested in it. Lukily he was

And I thought I was daft carrying a pony skull I found on the Swincombe over to Childes Tomb and putting it on the top of the cross with a sheeps skull for company
