 Ok, stupid question (probably).
Why, when I go to the wasdalewebcam thingy, do I get old images only? If its live?

No, I expected something a little better as well.

 errmm?
not sure what you mean really? The new web cam takes a picture every 10 mins and uploads it to the site.
The page reloads every 10mins as well, but if you want to see if the image has changed earlier then you will need to press the refresh button on your browser to see.
The only other option to make it more live is to upload a new image every min, but this really isn't needed as it is a view of a mountain which doesn't change that often.
Having streming video live from the camera is possible but would take so long to load on most platforms that it wouldn't be worth doing.
The camera we have is now the top of the range web cam, there isn't a commercialy better version available.
Due to bad timing the whole site is being re uploaded to the server this morning so you may have had some problems due to that?

oh and when the wind blows the rain, you will get a wet lense. The lense is wiped automaticly, but still you will get rain drops when it is raining.
not a bad thing really as it shows the real weather!

No problem with all of that Guy.

No idea, I'm looking at the site now and the image is todays uploaded 5 mins ago.
could be linked to your pooters cache?
I've also just checked my server and all the images taken on the 28th Oct have now been overwritten, so the image you have can't be coming from there?
sorry I cn't help, but the problem isn't at my end for a change :)

Anyhow all this looking at the webcam has made me realise the window cleaner has knocked the camera so you can only just see the summit of Gable.
So I'm off to walk the dog and reposition the camera.

I don't know if a similar problem that I had has a baring here?
I "moved" my various websites to a new paid server instead of the various "free" servers due to a combination of convenience and reliability.
Anyway, I noticed that after changing a page content on the server, it would sometimes not display the changes for sometimes hours, sometimes days. And yet, a friend was telling me that the new page was being displayed when he accessed the site.
I immediately cleared my temp cache files, but it did not clear the problem. An e-mail enquiry to the web server company suggested that sometimes, the ISP cache files could be "holding" the old version, and due to internet conjestion, the ISP's server might be sending you views of pages that you have previous viewed, and therefore the new version might not be displayed until their temp files were cleared. I had never heard of this before, but on making enquiries I was told that it is a possibility, and more likely to happen when the internet is busy???

 PS
What is the URL of the webcam please??????

WEll I am currently looking at a picture dated Nov 1st, which is fitting. The one from 2.5 hours ago, and the one from 1pm are both Nov 1st.
Personally I have to say that it's a brilliant resolution. I've only seen a few webcams, but that is the best quality I've seen!

 glad you like it Drew
I'm working on a cam pointing at Scafell pike as well but need a sponsor first to help pay for it.
so if anyone is out there?

Nice site (up-to-date here too). I particulary like the fact it holds a picture from 1pm each day, so if you're viewing it at night you still get a picture :)
Could do with a time stamp as well as a date on it though, to show when it was actually taken. Plus there's a lot of noise in that camera judging by the live shot at night

I now have a live picture (I know you were probably loosing sleep about it). Checked at home on Sunday night and it was dark. So live.
Still dont know why it didn't work last week. But it WAS on the PC in the basement at work - so perhaps its got something to do with that.
Nice pics tho.
