have a 750ml Camelbak bottle which has proven to be a winner at work, but has one problem.
The little one way valve that sits under the big bite widger when it's folded down, to let air in while you drink, is not so one way anymore, so when inverted the bottle has a tendency to leak quite a bit (not a stream, but a steady flow of drips). Any thoughts?
Hmmmm... I have an original Camelbak bite valve that also constantly drips unless I blow back into the drink tube to push the water back into the bag. So I use the "faucet" style Camelbak valve now with no problems. It's the blue valve W/ a yellow handle.
Even an early Gregory bite valve I had used to drip constantly. Ya gotta wonder, do they use customers for ALL their testing?
BTW, in winter I always have to blow the water back up the tube to keep the hose and valve from freezing. No amount of heavy neoprene hose insulation works after the first hour in frigid temps. But my new Camelbak Commander daypack has the insulated hose running inside the right shoulder strap. We'll se if that helps. I'm making a fleece valve cover with a pocket for a small chemical handwarmer. Might work. Then again there's Murphy's Law (and O'toole's Corollary - i.e. "Murphy was an optimist.")
Nope, bigbite not the problem, got one of the faucets on my blowfish. The snag is the bottles (the hard ones, not the flexi ones) have a small one way valve to allow air in, as they can't deflate as the fluid gets sucked out. That's the one that leaks
OK, now I see the problem. maybe it's a manufacturing glitch and not a design problem. Have you tried returning it to the vendor ror an exchange? If they give you a new bottle I'd test it right at the store.
I've seen Camelbak spares like bite valves, tubes, clips etc. during my many trawls through gear shops, but never replacement tops for the drinks bottles. Retailers probably reckon there's not enough demand to justify stocking them. Might be worth contacting the distributor tho -- if you're polite they might even supply one foc (or they might not).
"..and keep your bottle in an upright position as they are spillproof, but not drip proof." - http://www.camelbak.com/Sports-Recreation/Support/Product-Care/Usage/Trouble-Shooting-Leak.aspx
I had a leaking bottle, very annoying. Went to back to cotswold and swapped the top with the one they had on display (having asked them first). Problem solved. Problem solved even more when I use another wide mouth top (humnagear capcap) for it, which I alternate with
