What's with all the horrible neon zips! I hope Montane isn't going down the Haglofs route of '70's glam rock wear. Some of us users are older than 14.

Have a heart Mike, they've gone to a lot of trouble:

"Note the pretty orange zips, which apparently were dead hard to sort out, mainly because no-one's used that colour before, so YKK had to make them from scratch."

Does beg the question......

I wonder if Montane have pinched Haglofs designers though. I've found this picture of next summers backpacking gear.

Maybe Paramo will jump on the bandwagon next.

Is the Dyno jacket lined at all, or is it just a single layer of pertex equilibrium?

I wonder how it relates to the dynamo if so?

If its like their other eco stuff then maybe more of a casual cut than some things they do. But then they'd have a casual equilibirum shell with a hood and a (slightly) more technical equilbrium (stretch) shell without one

Can't really complain though, even with this and that RAB thing the world is still hardly set to be flooded with hooded, unlined softshells....

The orange zips look fine to me

Pity IMHO that so many companies have jumped on the water-resistant zips bandwagon. Personally if it's chucking it down all day I want a properly protected zip, double storm flaps.

Which I had in my (now sold but seriously good) Berghaus Trango XCR. However, where I live (S.France) it didn't get enough use to be worth keeping it. I agree with you, though, Chris. For UK Autumn to Spring use I'd be looking for double storm flaps too.

I've got a couple of theories on the zip colouration thing. One - bandwagon waiting for more passengers. Two - matching the zips to the main fabrics is probably not straight forward and would reduce the palete of fabric colours down to those that the zips were available in. Finding colours that clash is a lot easier than finding colours that match!!!  Ask Paramo... they've been masters for years.

I agree Chris - and if the 'water-resistant' zips are so good, why do they have storm flaps behind them? Though for winter, when velcro ices up, they're possibly a better solution.

Berghaus started a bit of a 'retro look' with white zips a couple of years back.

I think it's a very bad idea; I don't want colour-contrasting zips.

I'm sure some will think it's a great idea.
