This topic has now gone on into SEVEN pages!

Lordy!  Just  buy the following for the lightest remote canister stove:

1.MSR Pocket Rocket (or something as light)

2. Brunton remote adaptor to attatch the Pocket Rocket on one end and the canister on the other.

  Problem solved.

Eric

personally,  if I'm going for the weight of a remote stove, I want one which is low and stable with wide pan supports and a decent burner head for proper cooking with a larger pan - I won't get that with a mini stove in my experience.

those brunton converters are 150g

pocket rocket type stove = 75g

so 225g for an remote stove which to my mind is unfit for the job intended

- the remote stove I have is 240g and does the job.....

and the other problem with the pocket rocket/legs combo is that you dont have a preheat, so cant liquid feed the stove...

Apart from that, from experience, they really work.

I'm with Mole on this, if you really need a remote cannister stove then buy a remote cannister stove,

Without spending too much (by forgetting about the brand name) you'll get something thats light, low, stable, has Pre Heat and a wider pan support which is useful if you're using a wider shallower pan to melt snow.

Got my Express Spider for £32.

Saw on another thread which I can't now find that one buyer showed a photo of this stove glowing red hot. It turned out that a nut was loose on the pre-heat tube, allowing air in.

I received my new stove this morning and because I'd seen the photo I checked this nut and lo and behold it was loose as well.

Seems as though Primus have got a quality control issue with this stove, or the nut works loose in transit. The connection is brass on brass without a washer - perhaps one is required, or is it possible to use something like loctite to ensure the joint stays solid ?

Thought I would drag this thread back up as I finally got my cyclone stove last week. It was dispatched the Friday before the volcano erupted and hence it was delayed.

I used it on an overnight cycling trip and it seemed to work well. I have never used a gas stove before so not a lot to compare it to tbh. The only real concern I have is that the flame is very concentrated in the centre and doesn't spread very much. Not a problem when boiling water but needs a lot of stirring to prevent burning in the centre of the pot for anything else.

I used it with one of the converters from the same supplier to use the tall butane only cartridges that are much cheaper. It worked well but obviously not a long term test. I put some photos in my other thread about the converter that no one is interested in
