I emailed DMM this morning about when the Lightwave Ultrahike would be available, and they had no knowledge of it!!
I was going to buy the Wildtrek earlyer in the year, but was put of becuase it didnt have wand pockets, now they have added them to the Ultrahike im glad that i didnt, will just have to wait
Not only that, the pockets on the Ultrahike are gussetted, so will take a water bottle and all sorts of other things - whether the change of design had anything to do with me phoning them up and suggesting it I don't know! And it's lost the second compartment, making it lighter. (Ahem, nearly as light as the original Lightwave S54 was ...). Possibly the lightest 60Lish pack around with a true internal frame.
P.S. If you phone Lightwave, I'm sure they'll be able to help you with delivery dates and dealers stocking the new stuff - see here.
The Lightwave website now says "coming May 2010" although a couple of online retailers already seem to have stock. http://www.lightwave.uk.com/en/rucksacks_ultrahike_60.phphttp://www.cheaptents.com/acatalog/Product_Catalogue_Backpacks_16.html http://www.walkandramble.co.uk/acatalog/rucksacks-backpacks-more-than-50-litres.html Anyone seen one in the flesh yet or even better, bought and used one? After my Knoydart trip last week I have realised that getting a new internal frame rucksack is going to be a lot cheaper than keeping my current frameless rucksack and replacing enough of my gear with (expensive) lighter gear [tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag] to make it comfortable enough to carry for anything longer than a short (2 nights max) trip.
