I'm planning on a few days looking round the Lofoten Islands next month, after completing the Troms Border Trail. Have found a really handy bus timetable, but accommodation seems rather expensive.
If you've been to Lofoten, how easy would it be to wander out of a village / small town, pootle off the road a short way and find a nice wild camp spot? Not sure how much is wild and how much is farmed.
Any must-see places? I've only got 2-3 days so want to make the most.
The problem might not be that the land is farmed, but more that it is vertical and rocky
In principle your plan should work and might be a good way to see quite a lot of the islands. You already have a bus timetable, so you know that busses are a bit limited and the whole thing may need a bit of planning. A place I really liked was Bunes beach which is a short boat ride from Reine. Most people just got for a day trip, but it would be a great place to camp.
Cheap accomodation-wise there are hostels in Å and Henningsvær and several DNT cabins like e.g. Munkebu.
Chris, I hope you don't mind me being really cheeky. I was hoping to go kayaking around the Lofoten Islands next year, everything I have seen so far has been very expensive, on the unlikely chance that you see any information, on local companies that do this kind of thing, while you are there. I would realy appreciate if you could note down contact details.
MSP: will try and remember to note down anything I see. I know what you mean: the smaller local places which haven't got a website may well be cheaper.
Chris there are wery few farms in Lofoten, and with the exception of Austvågøy (Leknes) you should not have to walk more than 15 minutes before you are on unfarmed land and may erect your tent. But just ask people where it is easiest to find a spot. I'm sure they will guide you to a nice place.
MSP there is even a kayak clubb in Lofoten, try this site for info. Seems Lofoten kajakk klubb have only an e-mail adress. start with contacting them.
