Actually, I thought the more interesting story recently was Karrimor being involved in price-fixing. I'm surprised no one here picked up on that. Another UK company involved in price-fixing..... well thats news!

 Zombie thread alert!

I know! just making the point....

Zombie thread resurrected by a first-time poster: someone with an axe to grind; an independent trader, perhaps...? Zombie or not, the Blacks group are obviously having cashflow problems at the moment, since they're offering 40% discount on everything (including pre-existing offers). Big discounts before Christmas? Trouble at t'mill...

As Captain Paranoia says there are still big underlying problems at Blacks, sales likely to be worse than expected and they're still looking for extra funding to try to turn the group around. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15885776

Naive to intimate price fixing is more prevalent in UK than elsewhere.

When the quality has dropped like it has, I wont even consider them. It's not a snob thing, when you can buy recognised quality brands for a tiny bit more. Not sure what market they are aiming at. I saw on the lunchtime news a couple of days ago that Blacks had issued a Profits Warning (lack of). I was talking to a recently appointed manager a few months ago - knew his stuff and seemed switched, he was telling me about his interview when he asked questions about the long term and the restructure they went through recently. He was told that after they shut the shops (only to reopen a load of them) that the banks were happy to fund the "revamp".
Well, that was a good banking decision wasnt it. On the plus side, cos there always is I have taken advantage of the sale - 3 for 2 then a further 40% off in Milletts and got next years gas supply at 40% off

Thanks, I'll have to wander into my local Millets to stock up on gas.In Chester they closed their big shop on a retail park, only to re-open in a shop on the same park about 100 yards away a month or so later.I think the old shop still had all their fixtures and fittings in it. With management like that I think they won't be with us much longer.

They have loads of 3 for 2. but just to clarify - the gas isnt in that deal. But it is still 40% off. Hence why I stocked up

fingers crossed for all those decent manages good luck and to all you idiots at the top try listening to the "little" people they are the ones who try and keep your shops going they know what sells and what does not most of them have been working for you long enough you do not kno better maybe if you had listened to your store managers in the first place you would not be in this position that a store you sold years ago have just had to step in and buy you well done jd(first sport) lets make blacks good again
