 Cool pics.
Jon, any chance of doing a sort of "How to" article on independant trekking in the region?
I'd be interested in reading it - what about anyone else?

 Me too.
Hoping to go to Nepal next Oct/Nov, fitness permitting. Had been looking at going with Community Action Treks as I wasn't sure about independant trekking.
Anybody used then before?

Good idea Alex, we'll sort out some screen savers.

Jon, those pics are amazing - definately somewhere I've got to travel to!
Si - good idea meat, I'd definately be interested in reading an article along those lines.
A screen saver too - proper chrim-bo!

Hi. Splendid pics. After climbing Mera peak last year with KE Travel (I can recommend them) i'm returning in March to Langtang with friends to investigate some other peaks. Can't wait. For your first time in Nepal try an organised trek, but then go for it. Andrew.

Why is Hodge calling Si MEAT???
Does he know something we don't?
|
 |
I have no idea why he's saying that - theres no way he could know!

I meant mate - all the right letters were there, just the wrong order!
I've so not woken up today yet - I tried to open a door at work with my house keys todya - bearing in mind this is a door controlled with a swipe card.

Holy crap those pics are amazing, I'm off. Wheres my rucksack?
|

Wot no birds in bikinis? I had no idea Club 18-30 did these sort of holidays.
|
 |
I wish my leave dates could accommodate a trip like that:-(

I might have to work on the good Mrs F.
5 years time...my time in the service is up...the prospect of a month off in the mountains sounds lovely. Oh and the gratuity payment would help pay for it too.
Still one can dream....

 Wow !! I have a new aim for 2004 ;o) Fantastic.
|
 |
never mind the altitude - i feel nauseous just looking at the pics - lucky feckers
|
 |
Don't let me Mrs see these pics... I've got her convinced that rural Cornwall is gripped... This could lead to an expensive trip... Who did you use for flights etc?
|
 |
Definately time for Jon to give us the low down on how to plan a nice trip to Nepal :)
I prefer the idea of doing it independantly but have heard so many horror stories that I'd resigened myself to doing it with an organised trek
Wishing it was Oct next year already....
Next thing though is deciding what area - Everest region or Annapurna??
Anybody any suggestions?
|
 |
Everest, more time at altitude, more high mountain scenery, more dramatic IMHO and Ama Dablam, arguably the most dramatic, easily accessible mountain in the world. Best from Jiri.
Annapurna Circuit, more, erm, circular, not as high, dramatic distant / middle distance views. Annapurna Santuary - finishes in a really beautiful place perched under some astonishing mountains with a 4000 metre gap between top and bottom.
Personally I preferred the Everest Trek, though it was more crowded, it's also more dramatic, but then I'm an incorrigible high mountain freak.
Will do a follow up article about independent trekking in Nepal after Christmas, honest, but it's very straightforward on the major trekking routes. There's also a halfway option where you can book a guide or a 'porter/guide' once you get out there.
There's nowt wrong with organised treks btw, but they tend to be quite expensive and you're very much part of a group which you'll either like or not depending on how you're wired.
Anyway, something to dream of over Christmas and plans to lay for 2005 :-) Have a great one everybody.
