Why Mal? Has your Mrs finally chucked you out for being a curmudgeonly old git? Well, I'm a bit wary...all is sweetness and light here at the mo'. I'm confused

Of course you are; it's an age thing

The other tried & trusted method for reducing weight in your pack is to bring along one of these...
I'd never fit her into my backpack! (Unless she deflates of course.....)

I'd never fit her into my backpack! Refer to McHale Inex Alpineer above...
(Unless she deflates of course.....) Only her expectations, unfortunately...

Yes... Rocky... in hindsight I was just hoping nobody would spot that before I got around to editing my wording...

Well it wasn't much of a weekend for photos but I've put a few in an album in the Gallery....

There were some guys unloading canoes at the ODG on Saturday morning. They said they were going to paddle down the beck and be met somewhere further downstream by their van. They were a bit vague about exactly how far they were supposed to be going. Presumably, the idea was to get the hell out of the water before Skelwith Force! When I was a schoolkid staying at Chapel Stile, there was a bloke stuck in a canoe on a ridge of rock between furious rapids, close to where the timeshare now stands. It took a few hours for the rescue bods to get him out of there.

There were some canoe people disembarking at Elterwater about mid-day, Paddy, possibly the same group. We certainly didn't see any canoes further downstream!

Sorry, Sean, I wasn't paying attention. Spect it's an age thing.

There were folk playing in kayaks on the stretch near the bridge at Elterwater, and others just by Skelwith Bridge below the force. My second picture shows a canoeist giving Skelwith Force a very close inspection from the bank, but he said that none of his group had the skill (or possibly the bottle too ) to attempt it in those conditions.... I couldn't blame him!!

I decided against dropping into the Lakes on my return to the South today. It seems even wetter now than last weekend. Scotland was great - weather was not too bad and had a good few days out. So what has been going on here then? Any news?
|
 |
Probably most wise of you BBC news reporting 314.4mm of rain (a likely England all time record!) in Seathwaite yesterday and unsurprisingly floods all over the place in Cumbria. Cockermouth most notable it seems. Various flood warnings out along the Eden too. Oddly enough Manchester has decided to have a pleasant Spring day today.

So what has been going on here then? Any news? Well... it rains... it pours... then the sun comes out for a bit... I had a look at the Town Beck this morning... and if it rises another 100 feet I'm sunk! Serves me right for living on a hill!

Glad to hear you're still above water, Paddy, at least for the time being!
