You need to buy yourself an MP3 player. Preferably an iMac.

Yeah but an Orang-utan isn't gonna have many pockets to put it in.

Hey I Love the Osprey pack's I've a Eclipse 42 and every time I take it I put more stuff in cause you just do'nt know its there! Honestly its a heavy pack to start with but when you put it on its like magic it weighs nothing dont even think about it! Plus got it half price from Rock+Run! Mine swallows a 3 litre pack though so maybe they will update the Cresent in the near future.

I don't consider 30 CD's to be excessive at all. In fact that is positively lightweight!

 |
True Drew but I also have an Osprey Crescent 60 to put it in...

I have a Osprey Ceres Size 3 its supposed to be 50 litre but because I have the Big Bloke size its nearer 55 litres. It takes a 3 Litre Hydration Pouch easily. As Paul states they are heavy Sacs and when I first tried it out I thought this is going to be a killer. However after 3 miles or so I didn't notice the sac. I'm now a convert and will be sticking with Osprey they are fantastic sacs and look the Dogs when you take it out of the Car at the Linn of Dee Car Park (not that I buy gear just as a fashion statement, ahem).

If Ray Jardine had an Osprey he'd take the Kitchen sink! Nuff said.

Just loaded my gear into another cheap Rock+Run eclipse 42 bargain. The superlatives are right - awesome piece of kit and the best back system I've ever used, and I've had sacks from Lowe, North Face, Karrimor, Berghaus and then some. Comfy comfy comfy. Mmmmmm

The pack sounds great - and with all the different size options (hipbelt size, backlength, harness size) it should be possible to get one that fits really well.
Or will it? How many outlets will actually stock the different size hipbelts etc?
I think people trying to source Lightwave tents (another product with lots of options)had trouble getting hold of the spec they wanted, as most outlets weren't willing to hold stock of all the different flysheet options etc.
I know Osprey / MHW are a much bigger concern, so maybe this wont be a problem?
So, bottom line: Which stores will have the full range of sizes for these rucksacks? Hopefully Rob Wiley (sp) will see this and be able to help!
Cheers,
Si

Hi Simon (and others)
Happy to answer your question. You've touched on an interesting point, yes as you rightly say given that we (Osprey) produce Crescent packs in three torso lengths, three harness sizes and three hipbelt sizes all of which are totally interchangable and the shoulder harness adjustable it's pretty much a cert that you will get a perfect fit. In terms of servicing those fit needs (which is your main point) you need two main things:
1. A member of staff who is both helpful and knowledgeable about Osprey packs and their fit.
2. A selection of hipbelts and harness sizes to try out.
On the first point we make regular training visits to all Osprey dealers to ensure that staff have adequate know how to correctly fit and advise customers on Osprey products. This doesn't mean that every staff member is 100% certain to be fully trained, but it does greatly increase the likelyhood.
The second issue is your main question. Will every store stock every size of torso, harness and hipbelt to try? The short answer is no, but it's a fairly quick process to remove the harness or hipbelt from another Crescent pack therefore even if they don't have 'spares' you can still try the parts for size. The store can either let you walk away with those parts or they can order them for you directly from Osprey. A further item we have provided stores with is an Osprey fit tool which measures not only torso length but also hipbelt size. This should verify the correct size for your body. I hope that makes sense? for more info about fitting and the body dimensions we use visit:

To be honest the concept of fully custom fitting a pack in the UK is quite new. Adjustable back lengths have of course been around for quite a while (many moons ago I used to work for Lowe) but the difference in fit on a custom built pack (torso, hipbelt and harness) to an adjustable pack is huge. I suppose in the same way that an adjustable shoe wouldn't be as comfortable as the correct size for your foot?
To your bottom line question, I'd say that all Osprey dealers are pretty keen to get you fitted with the right size, but if you tell me what region you usually shop in I could direct you to the store most likely to go that extra.
Cheers

 Hi Rob.
I normally shop in Central London, around Covent Garden as there are so many kit shops! Would be willing to travel elsewhere though.
Thanks for the comprehensive reply too.
Si
PS Sorry for the atrocious mis-spelling of your name in my first post.
