Hi The Terra Nova Website is not really helpful with the specifications of these two tents can someone enlighten me re differences in materials ie fly, groundsheet, poles durability of pegging points etc,  generally how they both perform in bad weather this would be very helpful cheers.

You want Matt C, the Forum's Terra Nova afficionado   I'm sure he'll be along sooner or later.

I've only got the SL version; I wouldn't got out in seriously crap weather, but I regard my SL as my 'winter' tent.

No sign of MattC!  So can I ask you Voyager Superlite owners what are the pegging points made of and how durable are they and what is the groundsheet material , also how is it in strong winds considering it only has the 2 guy points. Oh sorry and what pegs do you use .

I'm not sure how much use I can be, because my Superlite is the previous version and not only has the design changed this year, but I think that the materials have too.

I've also got the original Voyager (which has had lots and lots of use), and the Superlite's fly and groundsheet materials are much thinner and lighter, so they're unlikely to be quite as durable, but I'm sure that with sensible use it will last a good few years anyway.

The pegging points on the Superlite are thin bungee cord (much thinner than on the standard Voyager), but I've no concerns about their strength being inadquate. As for only having two guy points, I would rather that it had more, but then I've used the superlite in 35mph (gusting close to 50) and although it was deforming like a blancmange and incurred quite some curves in the poles, nothing broke.  With the old-version Superlite being the exact same design as the standard Voyager (which it's not any more), it behaved pretty much as the Voyager does in the same conditions.

As for pegs, I take one Y stake for the back, a few V stakes and the rest are the standard titanium pegs that came with the tent when I bought it.

One other thing: it says on the website that the seams aren't guaranteed watertight, and I seem to be one of the unlucky ones who has suffered a leak in very heavy rain - but it was easily cured with a dab of seam sealant.

Like Gayle I use a mixture of pegs - I take a couple of Alpkit Ti Vs, a couple of Xs (can't remember where I got them from but they're a beautiful metallic blue colour ), and the rest are the standars little Ti ones that came with the tent.

I use a groundsheet protector - got a lightweight spinnaker one from Team Io. It's just a rectangular shape, not cut specifically for this tent, but works fine and I like to have a bit of groundsheet in the porch.

I've poked Matt on another thread, and he may (or may not) appear as if by magic!

Thanks for your help and information. What Im trying to decide is... whether to go for the Voyager superlite as a solo tent over say a Scarp 1.  Im not conviced yet about the Superlite as Ive heard quite a few reports of bent poles in high winds. While Ive never had any bent poles in previous single pole and tunnel tents in high wind conditions.

Gayle are your tent poles still ok to use after they were bent?

The poles got curves rather than being bent, so they still work just fine.

For what it's worth, in similarly windy conditions, we also incurred a curved pole in our previous Laserlarge1 (two pole tunnel).

I have.  And they were 10mm poles in Saunders Galaxies and Spacepackers, not the skinnier ones in a Voyager.  Throw enough wind at them and they'll bend...

Pete.
