Wow.. I been using previous inov "walking boots" (370 & 390) and my only concern was is lack of duration in "mid term use" (ok, is not honest to ask for a long term duration in this type of shoes) Now my concern is that i must wait 10 months to try this shoes (time more than enought to destroy my 390)

I've loved Inov8 footwear since the first day I put them on my feet. I'm not really a boot-wearer, but I'd be prepared to try these lightweights. It quickly became apparent to me that the supreme comfort and performance of Inov8s came at a cost. That cost is not just the money you pay, but they don't last as long as heavyweight footwear, so you pay over and over again when you buy replacements every few months. Still... I wouldn't dream of wearing cheapo footwear if it meant I had to hobble painfully over the hills. It's the same old 'you pays your money and you takes your choice' thing.

I'm not a boot wearer either these days. I might give these a go if they make a pair without the goretex lining.

ditto what MFD said, Doesn't look like theres too many seams either, wonder how tough the leather is.

Try a pair of Walsh fell boots. I used a pair for years on the bike and for short walks but thought they had stopped producing them, then found I could get them from Blands in Kendal. Now they are my main foot ware.Very light, very comfortable, a great fitt and no Gore-Tex.

They do look very interesting. We're hoping to get an early pair for review btw, though that won't be for some time I think.

Benco... it's not terribly clear from the picture, but I don't think there are really 'too many seams'. It looks as though there are only four pieces of leather, and as it's presumably lightweight leather, it's reinforced by having plastic bands welded across them. I was keen on the erstwhile Hi-Tec V-Lite leather shoe, long discontinued, which was almost a single piece of leather! When the name resurfaced, attached to a non-leather shoe, the shoe was incredibly heavy and not something I'd be prepared to wear.

ooh like the look of these my toes have gone all wiggly

Aye Paddy, the lack of seams is what I like the look of, less to go wrong. ("less to go wrong" Hmmm......shame about the goretex lining)

Definately keep my eyes on these. Find it really hard if I have to wear my meindls even though they are tough boots when I've been wearing shoes for the last two years. My terrocs are completely worn out and used now for gardening in the summer and I'm experimenting with some north face terranius for the winter. Not as light, bit more sturdy but not too sure they are everything they claimed to be for lightweight walking.

Anybody tried the Hanwag Mountain Light or Altai boots?
|
 |
sorry Benco, I can't see what the fuss is all about having Gortex linings, I've had Gortex in all my walking boots/shoes for years without any problems, better that cold wet feet.
|
 |
You've been more fortunate than me, to be sure I've had one pair of GTX boots where the liner lasted pretty much until the rest of the boot was knackered but on the whole I've found that the lining fails quite quickly...and when it does it's worse than useless, just a good way of preventing your boots from drying once they (inevitably) get wet.

I too actively avoid membrane lined boots. leather alone is far better in my opinion. While membranes may keep water out (but in my experience fail fairly swiftly) they can't breathe when the outer material is wet, nor do they ever breathe as well as advertised.
