Hello people, Now that I'm doing a bit more walking, the old Dr Martens boots are going to have to be replaced with something a little more suitable . A friend has lent me his Karrimor boots (K-SB), which feel fine at the start of the day, but end up pinching my toes after a few hours. Would anyone please be able to recommend a boot made on a similar last to the Karrimor, but with a slightly roomier toe box? Sorry if this is a silly question... Many thanks, Gavin.

i have to ask, seeing as this is an outdoors forum. do you have a teepee? or just a regular tent? i used to have a pair ksb's and got on ok with them, i then bought some raichles (now called mammuts) and they were a perfect fit. i have no idea if the issues were the same as yours though.

ROFL, very good. Oh, and thanks for the info.

As other will probably tell you go to a good quality outdoor shop, the ones that specialise in footwaer and have qualified staff and try on as many pairs of boots as they will allow you until you get one that fits like a glove. Everyones feet are different so what's good for one may not be good for others. You will probably also have slightly different sized feet as well. For the record I use Sarpas, have tried a couple of other brands but always returned to Scarpa as they are the best fit for my feet.

Thank you Lindsay Certainly plan to have an afternoon in one or two of the local shops. Just wondered, as the Karrimors feel OK at first, if anyone here had found similar. Thanks again to you both for taking the time to reply. Cheers! Gavin.

i've found karrimors to be okish fit wise but have awful tongues which don't lie flat and dig in the top of my foot. a brand for similar sizing but more money could be meindl.

Oh yes, those Meindl boots do look nice. Cheers! Is it pronounced Mine-del, Men-del, or something different? Oh, it's no fun being a newbie when you're pushing 40.

mine-dl (almost like dull) well actually more like mine-tdl but that's getting really picky.

my pleasure. a german tip. the letter combinations "ei" and "ie" are always pronounced from the second letter i.e. "ei" is pronounced eye whilst "ie" is pronounced ee meindl - mine-dl liebe - lee-beh

Most helpful! A German speaking colleague once told me, but it soon (i.e., within about a day) slipped out of the old memory. No excuse for fogetting now... Ah, yes, Maisel's Weisse. It does work!

For the record (should someone else be perusing this post looking for an answer), I've settled on a pair of Scarpa SL M3s made on the wide BXX last. I spent hours in the shops trying on different boots, eventually getting blistered and bleeding fingers from all the lacing. Initially went home with a pair of Meindl Borneos, but took them back as they pinched my toes a little. Just returned home from two weeks in Scotland and the Scarpas have been an absolute delight. As comfy as anything and not a blister in sight. Many thanks again to you all for the advice.
