I'm [planning to walk Hadrian's Wall in late May or early June. What do I need to know...?
|
 |
Just follow the thundering herds. :-)
|
 |
I though sections of it were going to be closed due to severe erosion and damage to the stone work?
|
 |
No, they just discourage use in November-April (you can't get the passport thing then, for example). Buit seriously, can anyone give me hints on weather, clothing needed, places to stay, etc? I'm in the US, and so am finding it hard to work out this sort of thing. Thanks, Raewynne

Raewynne, if you email me your address and a complete list of your questions, no matter how many, I will endeavour to answer all of them asap. As I live at the eastern end of it it will not be too difficult, (I hope!).
Have you managed to get the "HADRIANS WALL walking and accomodation guide" ?
If not we can sort that out easily. I have to say that in my opinion they are not at all geared up for folk on a limited budget and as you may have read they also did not expect it to be as popular as it was so accomodation is limited and expensive in some cases.
Will you be backpacking? In the true sense of the word or B&B/Hosteling?
In case you do not have them these may help also= www.hadrians-wall.org www.countryside.gov.uk www.nationaltrail.co.uk
Anyway feel free to contact me by email Cheers Bryan

Raewynne, didn't realise you weren't in the UK. Sorry.
Have you seen "Hadrian's Wall Path" by Anthony Burton (Aurum Press) ISBN 1 85410 893 X.
It's a pretty comprehensive guide to the path (amazing - you'd never guess it from the title) including info on where to get info about ccommodtion.
If you don't mind a detour fom the Wall there's Low Stead which has to be one of the best places to stay anywhere. (Just enter "Low Stead" as a search string on the net.) And book dinner, Sally Peel is God's own cook.

It just occured to me that others may require some info for this walk. Hopefully I have managed to send Raewynne what she needed and in doing so scanned a bit of stuff in to a file all 'jpegs', so if anybody wants it and can be bothered to wait while it downloads then just ask. cheers Bryan

Hi Kevan smith and everybody else in this country.
I feel a bit of a fraud because I was told and genuinely beleived that the booklet I had was NOT available and not going to be, certainly not in the near future and it was going to be charged for!
So when I saw a request from a walker from the USA It seemed the right thing to do to scan it in and send it off. Plus adding some further info on our weather at that time of year as requested. Which was well recieved.
So far so good.
I have just been told that if you ring 01434322002 the Hadrians Wall Information Line they will send you a copy but there will be a charge for postage. Fair enough.
However somebody else just contacted me and said they could not get it and would I send it anyway?
So I am quite happy to forward it , all 84 'JPEGS' in 10's or 5's If you still want them.
Cheers Bryan

I'm not sure if I'm talking about the same thing, but I esnt an email to www.hadrians-wall.org requesting info and was sent loads of stuff including local bus timetables (handing for ensuring arrival at local pub) and a booklet entitled walking and accommodation guide. This was free and I paid no postage. There were even details of luggage services and campsites. Sorry if you already know about this one
|
 |
I guess you already know about this one then.
