Hi Darren can i just ask how much you paid for your Yellow Fever Jab? I am going up Kili in June and its the last innoculation i have left to get but the cheapest i can find it for is £56 with certificate! And also whilst im on the subject... how much is Diamox, prescription price? Cheers and Good Luck!

Markos... I was faced with a choice of paying about £50 for the yellow fever jab, and checked both my local surgery and one of those travel clinics, only to find out, at the time, that there'd been a rush on the stuff and no-one was likely to have any in stock to be able to guarantee immunity before my trip. I was heading for Mallorca just before heading to Africa, and a pal of mine told me to get the jab in Mallorca. I was lucky, since there were three doses left on the island, and apart from the grind of filling in forms in triplicate, it only cost €6.50, which worked out at about £5 at the time. I also got a lovely yellow certificate in Spanish, which I thought very appropriate. In short, I think we're paying over the odds for the stuff!

Yeah! Totally over priced apparently some people will give you a discount if you are doing work for charity but it very much depends on the person! I live in liverpool where we have the world renowned School of Tropical medicine.. i was kind of hoping they would have plenty of the stuff and offer me a cheap shot but after searching everywere the prices are pretty much the same ... excellent price in Mallorca tho! May jus pop over before i go haha

I think that's what happened to all the yellow fever stock... there'd been a big earthquake somewhere, presumably in an area where yellow fever was rife, and all the 'international rescue' people had been given virtually the entire stock of vaccine. If I remember the 'tech' stuff, it's the sort of vaccine that has to be grown and it doesn't have a long shelf life, so if there's a rush on it, then they have to grow some more. Tell you what's changed over the years... the typhoid jab. The first one I had was a jab containing live cells, and by the time I'd walked home from the surgery, I had barely enough strength to crawl into bed, where I stayed for two days without eating or drinking. If that was the 'attenuated' form, I'd hate to get clobbered with 'proper' typhoid! Now they inject you with dead cells and there's barely any reaction to it.

Interesting to know! And yeah Typhoid Jab was a breeze i felt excellent after mine. Think it was a Tripple Jab Tetanus, Typhoid, Polio also whilst i was there i had Diptheria Hep A and Hep B as well as some other boosters.. Just waiting on Yellow Fever now i think

The Rabies vaccine has got to be the most expensive one I know of, I ended up paying out £95 for mine, I now belive it's over £100, and you still need to get to an antidote fast!!! Don't know if you need it for Kilimanjaro though. I was "advised" to get it for North Africa because it is a problem in wild and domestic animals. Can also be spread by Bats. Maybe Paddy would now more about this than me.

I got the yellow fever for 45 quid and 3 x rabies at 35 quid each, i got advised on rabies in case a mozzy had been sucking on an infected animal and then me. No affects with any, diamox is around a fiver but a mate gave me a load for free as he didnt use them in Nepal.

Yea, mozzies are 'barstewards', . Wish they had never evolved!! By the way, it's only the females that suck blood, as they need it to produce eggs!!!! A femail sucking you dry! sounds like my ex,
