Got an email from Needle Sports a few days ago saying they thought Mardale had gone out of business and they wouldn't be getting any more of their stuff in. A shame as I really liked the look of their bivi boots and nobody seems to make anything similar.

It's very sad to see a British manufacturer going downhill like this.  I hope they manage to pick themselves up again.  Sadly, global economics may well be against them.  Not that their apparent lack of customer service helps...

Yes it is sad. Buffalo actually did look like they could just about be heading this way a year or two back (nothing like as bad as yet of course) but do seem to have since recovered.

In terms of bivy boots, Integral designs do something which should do a pretty similar job - in UK stock here.

Aye, those Needlesports/Mardale pertex/pile bivvy boots are superb. I've used mine in the tent and a snowhole and they've kept my feet toasty warm while also drying out the merino socks from the day's walk that I've kept on. Fine for popping outside in snow or frost too (but perhaps not on downright wet ground).

I a'ways look at down booties and get tempted but on balnce I can't help thinking that these are just more practical. I'd say get 'em while stocks last!!

Which (to judge by Needlesports site!) might unfortunately have been a little while ago (I got some late last year ). The ID things should be a fair substitute. Perhaps they'll persuade Buffalo to do some more.

On vaguely similar lines Buffalo's seperate hoods seem to have some promise by way of  conversion to rather warm hats/head coverage.

mmm The ID bootees have a Powerstrecth heel panel - should soak up any moisture quite well!

The mardale ones are solid pu nylon - I got some for christmas
