I'm interested in the Stratos pack from Aguille. Anyone got one? or any knowledge of Aguille?

Beyond them being a small company holed in Staveley and still making their sacks in the UK not really. They've been mentioned before now so a search will turn a bit up. I've been mildly interested in them for their ability to custom fit sacks if need be. (which I think I'll need in a load hauler.). From their website it looks a rationally minimal climbing rucksack. Price sane. Whether it carries well for you is the big thing

Thanks Martin The website is a bit lacking in detail i'm afraid John Burley's the man

My knowledge of Aguille is relatively scant, but positive. When I bought an avalanche pinger from Face West about a decade ago they were offering either a free day pack or snow shovel with it. I got the shovel but two pals got the packs which were wee Aguilles. Good, no nonsense designs that were built well. Pete.

I have a big, custom-fitted load hauler pack from Aiguille(an extra-long Jorasses) and have been using it for a year now. Although it's not closely similar to the type of pack the OP was asking about, I can report I have been delighted wih mine: strong, simple, sturdy, reasonable weight, carries well (for me), works well (for me).

Likewise, not much knowledge but positive. I've got one of their monster 10 litre bumbags and it's a very robust, functional bit of kit. Not sexy but it's got the features you's want and no extra bells and whistles. I'm almost 100% certain that Iain Gallagher, the chap from Kendal Mountaineering Services who many OMers know from winter Skills etc., uses one of their packs as his day-to-day load-lugger - and has done for at least the 4 or 5 years I've known him. So it's not fancy kit like the Ospreys of this world but it is robust, practical and long-lasting.

Cheers Matt Unfortunately the website is lacking in detail, like what the pack is made of, weight, sizing etc.

Unfortunately the website is lacking in detail It is, but sometimes detail can hide the, errrr, detail. Talk to the folk directly and you might find that other things than are listed are possible, especially with a small producer where they have direct access to what's done. I'd email them, or better still 'phone them, and talk directly to the folk involved and then you can be as sure as possible whether it's worth pursuing further. Pete.

Mick It's worth phoning them for such details, because they are not necessarily fixed and can be adjusted to fit your requirements. For example, I had a choice of a couple of different fabrics when I had my pack made. John

Thanks Pete i will BUT surely those things i mentioned should be on the blurb. If i had been happy with what i saw i would have ordered this morning.

BUT surely those things i mentioned should be on the blurb. It certainly wouldn't hurt. And they could add "this is our standard model, please call and talk to us if you'd like to discuss options not listed", or summat like that. At least it's not Flash powered and uninformative with it! Pete.

The trouble is, the moment has gone, now i'm thinking about it

That's not actually a problem. If you were looking for excuses not to buy it (like exactly how many grammes is it?) then eventually you wouldn't. And if you were looking for excuses to buy it then the inevitable will surely happen, but you can tell yourself how much better it must be because you've thought about it for longer, and still bought it. We are rationalising animals, not rational ones! Seriously, a 'phone call will probably convince you one way or another that either you do or don't want to do business with them. Pete.

After last week's post on Aguille sacks I emailed them. I was interested in customisation being a lanky person and liking stretchy mesh side pockets. I got a reply within 24 hours tot he positive. The person suggested that since I lived nearby to drop in or to give him a telephone call to discuss what I am looking for. Unfortunately things changed and I am not quite in a position to make a big purchase at the moment. I wish I was just to support a good little company like they appear to be. Seriously they are worth a phone call or email if you think they have a product close to your needs as they may be able to make it closer with modest customisation. I know how these small sewing based companies operate having dealt with some at work in another industry. There is often a lot of desire to help everyone who comes to them. Even better visit them if you are nearby or passing. They were somewhere on the right in the Stavely mill yards opposit the entrance to the bike store if my memory is still correct.

Thankyou for the encouragement to spend my hard earned cash Gents , i will mail them tomorrow for the details. I wonder though how many sales they have lost due to people prevaricating like me and then buying elsewhere .
