I'm after a couple of sleeping bag's. One for me and one for my partner.
I'm guessing prob a 3 season? I want to use it now, prob be camping below 500m in the hills. So temp range.. comfort maybe down to between -5 and -7? I want it to be warm enough.
it for hiking so has to be reasonably light and small.
now problem is i'm on a budget so cant afford much... maybe £40 each or so?
I'll be using it inside a tent and sleeping on a cheap foam mat.
Vango do some lightish bags the venom that are cheap however whether you'll get one for that temp range. Have you thought about modifying your temp requirements through the judicious use of clothing you are carrying anyway? I mean if most of the time it is going to be used the worst case scenario is +5C then why not buy for that and cope through extra clothing on the few times it is going to get close to 0C or below. It has been a cold winter this time but a lot of the time in a normal year in the UK, if the bag s big enough to take you and extra clothing without compressing the insulation, a lesser rated bag is suitable with the extra clothing.
If you want to look at the vango venom take a look in F&T as they often sell the 2/3 season ones off in autumn/winter cheaply.
Whatever you choose it will be a compromise. The above solution is one compromise to meet youyr price another compromise might be to find over £100 and get a down bag. That might just mean you give something else up to get the gear.
It is always acompromise game buying gear. Between the money you have and the money you need to get what you really want. Or at least it is for most of us, there are some on here who buy stuff only to sell it on in a few months. You'll find them in the classified section of the forum as the most common posters in there.
