Hi all, after just receiving a Montane Puma 2 i'm wondering if its right for me. The hard woolly feel of it is orrible, plus the rumours of the powerstretch panels being too cold in windy weather makes me wonder if i'm going to send it back or not.
I'm after a warm windproof, but at least with SOME level of breathability. I'm going to be sitting round on windy hills in it whilst setting up a hang glider (and flying it), but also using it for low level walks of a few miles here and there. I've just tried on an apex bionic in blacks, and despite the slightly baggier fit and longer arms, i'm thinking this may be better.
But, is the apex climatebloc fabric clammy like windbloc, or does it offer SOME level of breathability?
When walking, I find this jacket too warm, even in cold conditions (that could just be me). When stopped in the cold, it is not quite warm enough. In terms of breathability it is better than a hard shell, you will still get sweaty, but it feels better.
I now use this more for casual wear and stops on walks on cooler spring and autumn days.
hmmm interesting.. thanks for the reply. I'd have thought that when stopped it would be warm enough though.. do you just use a base underneath it? or something else as well?
I used it for a walk last month, when we had all the snow. All I had on was a Berghaus wicking T-shirt and the Apex Bionic shell. I found that too warm and was wishing I had bought along my unlined Apex Elixir soft shell. When I was stopped, it just wasn't quite warm enough. If I was stopping for any length of time, I would have put on a micro fleece underneath.
Don't get me wrong, the Apex Bionic is a good jacket and may well be suitable for you. For me, not quite right.
