What has happened to jackets? All I can find are 3 in 1 style things.

I need a replacement winter jacket. My TNF Mountain Parka must have shrunk (ahem!) but I can't find a decent new one. OK it will be lighter....good. but it must have a zipped inside pocket, handwarmer pockets and 2 (or perhaps 1 ) chest pocket. I want pit zips too.

Even more important it must be durable, and fairly warm....so not a lightweight jacket....I have that for summer use. I need a robust jacket.

Any ideas? I don't mind a man's jacket as there is more choice.

A sale price would not go amiss either!

The Munro looks interesting...anyone know anything about the fabric....how does it compare with Goretex XCR?

For what you want (durable, warm, pockets) Paramo would be ideal.

It is a different technology to gore-tex but users (including me) would say it is better. Downsides are expense and it is too warm for summer (but you don't want it for summer).

How about a Furtech Claw 1?

Similar to Paramo, warm, waterproof, doesn't have an internal pocket but it does have two large chest pockets, hand warmer pockets, and massive pit zips.

I have a simple robust waterproof jacket going. A montane G force smock, now this is made waterproof with event and not goretex.  It only has the chest pocket and no others but is a technical hardwearing jacket.  Only owned it for a year and rrp was £160 but I didn't pay that (of course).  If you are interested its an XL just pop me a pm.

Look at the Cioch Site, similar to Paramo but you can get it made to measure and any extras you want. You can also phone them and discuss your requirements.

Hmmm looks like my pm did not go....don't want a smock, def a jacket. Thanks.

Paramo are good (I have a Halcon for birding) but want something I can also wear over work clothes.............so black really....I loved my TNF jacket. It felt substantial. eVent is too crisp packet like for me.

So, any more thoughts? Lots of pockets....quite a thick material, and dark in colour, preferably black (ish). Internal pocket is a must.

Not too expensive either.

The Cioch stuff looks good, but a tad pricey.

What is the Paramo Vasco like?
